Chapter 7: The Draw Beyond Fear
Leo stared up at the sinister moon that was the terrible monster, Worm Zero. He felt his legs begin to shake. Fear had overtaken him. Mrs. Kretch stared back at Leo with an insane grin.
"Now young man, since you are now doomed, I might as well give you the pleasure of seeing the full power of Worm Zero." Mrs. Kretch said with a mad look in her eyes.
"Worm Zero gains three effects depending on how many monsters were used as its Fusion Material." Mrs. Kretch explained. "If two or more monsters were used, I can Special Summon a Worm monster from my Graveyard in face-down Defense Position, which I shall now do."
As the sinister educator placed the card she took from her Graveyard slot onto her duel disk, a gigantic drop of bluish-grey slime dropped from Worm Zero to a spot in front of Mrs. Kretch. The slime puddle quickly evaporated, revealing the back of a large monster card. Leo wondered what horrible monster Mrs. Kretch had just set on the field.
"Now I activate the second effect of Worm Zero." Mrs. Kretch announced. "If four or more monsters were used for the summoning of Worm Zero, I can remove a Worm monster from my Graveyard to send a monster on my opponent's side of the field to the Graveyard. So I remove Worm Tentacles in order to get rid of Morphtronic Boomboxen!"
As soon as the card popped out of the Graveyard slot on Mrs. Kretch's duel disk, another large drop of bluish-grey slime dropped from Worm Zero and covered Boomboxen. Leo watched in horror as the boom box robot dissolved right before his eyes.
"And now I activate the final effect of Worm Zero!" Mrs. Kretch announced. "If six or more monsters were used to summon Worm Zero, I can draw one card!"
Mrs. Kretch drew another card from her deck, all the while grinning at Leo. Leo shivered as he wondered what card she drew. When Mrs. Kretch simply added the card to her hand, Leo felt a wave of relief wash over him, but it didn't last long. Worm Zero had yet to attack.
"Now, Worm Zero, attack Morphtronic Videon!" Mrs. Kretch commanded at the top of her voice. "Zero Impact!"
Leo watched in horror as the evil moon that was Worm Zero began to move towards him like an oncoming meteor. Mrs. Kretch cackled madly as Leo stood frozen in terror. He knew that the pain he felt from the attack might actually kill him, even though Videon was the target. Leo couldn't think of anything he could do to stop the attack. Than he glanced down at the ground and saw the giant face-down card that was in front of him, and remembered the Trap that he laid.
"I activate a Trap!" Leo shouted at the top of his voice. "Morphtransition! I switch Morphtronic Videon to Defense Mode to stop Worm Zero's attack!"
The instant Video folded back into a digital camera, an invisible barrier formed and expanded, pushing Worm Zero back into the sky. Leo could hear his heart pounding like the drum of a slave ship. His legs were beginning to wobble. Leo knew that he had just barely survived. Mrs. Kretch chuckled.
"Well done young man." Mrs. Kretch said in tone that seemed to mock Leo. "You've managed to survive for one more turn. You won't survive for another. Even if you do summon another monster, I can merely send it to the Graveyard with Worm Zero's second effect, and attack your little camera with the monster I summoned from the Graveyard. That will leave you wide open from a direct attack from Worm Zero."
Leo knew that Mrs. Kretch was right. Even if he did draw a card that could negate Worm Zero's attack, it would only be delaying the inevitable.
"I end my turn!" Mrs. Kretch announced. "Now draw your last card young man!"
Leo stood frozen in terror as he tried to think of a way out of his current situation. He started hating himself for not being able to save Luna. Than Leo thought about what Yusei, Jack, Crow, and Aki would say if they could see him now. They would all tell Leo to not give up, that there was always a way to win. Leo also thought about all the tough duels he fought in the past, and how he faced monsters that were just as powerful as Worm Zero. It was true that during those duels he had help, but he never gave up during any of them. And he wasn't about to give up, not when Luna was in terrible danger.
"My turn!" Leo announced as he drew his next card.
Leo looked at the new card and thought that it might give him one more chance to win.
"I activate Magical Mallet!" Leo announced. "This card lets me shuffle any number of cards in my hand into my deck to draw an equal number of cards! I shuffle every card that's left in my hand to draw three new cards!"
As the duel disk shuffled his deck, Leo prayed that the cards that he was about to draw would help him win somehow. The duel disk finished shuffling and Leo drew three new cards. Leo looked at the cards and smiled. One of the cards he drew was just what he needed to stop Worm Zero.
"I activate Release Restraint Wave!" Leo announced. "This card lets me destroy an equip card in order to get rid of every Spell and Trap card on my opponent's side of the field! The equip card I choose to destroy is the card equipped to Videon, Break! Draw!"
Mrs. Kretch's evil grin instantly turned to a look of utter shock. The Break! Draw! card behind Videon shattered and created a shock wave that shattered the Future Fusion card. Leo knew that with Future Fusion gone, Worm Zero would be destroyed. The evil moon that was Worm Zero exploded into several fragments that turned to dust.
"I'm not done yet!" Leo announced. "Next I summon Morphtronic Scopen in Attack Mode!"
A large microscope appeared on the filed and unfolded into an oddly shaped robot.
"Now I activate Morphtronic Scopen's effect and Special Summon Morphtronic Slingen in Attack Mode!" Leo announced.
A large purple slingshot with a green band appeared next to Scopen and unfolded into a robot.
"Now I activate Morphtronic Slingen's effect and tribute Morphtronic Videon to destroy your face-down monster!" Leo announced.
Slingen raised its arms into a V-shape. Videon unfolded back into a robot, jumped into the air, and landed in front of the green band that connected Slingen's arms. Videon picked up the band, put it behind its waist, and began to pull itself back as far as it could. Videon then picked up its legs and lauched itself into the air, where it dived and crashed into Mrs. Kretch's face-down monster, destroying it in a huge explosion. Mrs. Kretch's expression of shock quickly turned to one of insane rage.
"Now I tune my level four Morphtronic Slingen into my level three Morphtronic Scopen to Synchro Summon Power Tool Dragon!" Leo announced. Scopen transformed into three rings of green light, which surrounded Slingen and turned it into four balls of white light. As this occured, Leo chanted: "Docking strength with courage to protect world peace! Synchro Summon! Envoy of love and justice, Power Tool Dragon!"
Leo's loyal mechanical dragon appeared in a burst of white light.
"YOU LITTLE BRAT!!" Mrs. Kretch screamed.
"Power Tool Dragon, attack Mrs. Kretch directly!" Leo commanded. "Crafty Break!"
Power Tool Dragon's eyes flashed red as it flew up into the for its attack. The mechanical dragon dove down and hit Mrs. Kretch with its blue shovel claw. Mrs. Kretch's life points dropped from 1500 to zero. As soon as Power Tool Dragon vanished, the back of Mrs. Kretch's neck began to spark, just as the necks of Luke and Roxanne did. Suddenly, the sparks became more violent and Mrs. Kretch exploded into a pillar of green flame. Leo watched in horror as the evil teacher screamed in agony. The flames suddenly vanished, leaving nothing but a pile of grey ashes that began to blow away in the breeze.
Leo dropped to his knees in exhaustion. He decided to sit down and catch his breath for a moment. Leo's mind still raced as he thought about what just happened. He asked himself why Mrs. Kretch had burst into flames. Was it because she wasn't human? Than Leo wondered if it was even possible to revive Luke and Roxanne. Leo decided that he would deal with that problem when the time came. His main problem at the moment was saving Luna. After what seemed like three minutes, Leo got back up and went towards the hill that Roxanne said overlooked the "meteor." Whatever was over the hill, Leo swore to himself that he wouldn't let it stop him from saving his sister.
