One of the best decks I’ve ever built was a Legendary Six Samurai deck that I had put together in order to use one of the legalized Egyptian God Cards. As it turns out, there are a few stories behind these six monsters. There are also one or two little mysteries about these cards that have yet to be fully explained. So I’ve decided to do a multi-part series on the Legendary Six Samurai. And I’m going to start with their leader, a card so powerful that only one copy is allowed in each deck (at least for the moment).
Legendary Six Samurai - Shi En
As the most powerful member of the original band of Six Samurai, Shi En was known to leave behind a path of severed heads in every battle he took part in. This earned the warrior a very fearful reputation. Many believed that Shi En’s armor had been dyed red by the blood of every enemy he had slain in battle. In addition to being a skilled warrior, Shi En was also quite crafty and cunning. Over time, he had climbed through the ranks and became a great leader.
That is more or less the story behind the most powerful member of the Legendary Six Samurai. But there are some oddities about Shi En that have yet to be explained. One of the legends about this great samurai said that he often produced powerful purple flames. What is even odder though is that unlike his fellow warriors in the original band of six, Shien did not seem to age at all. This raises an interesting question. Is Shi En even human?
The info in Master Guide 3 that tells the story of the Legendary Six Samurai raised the possibility that Shi En was some sort of demon king. This seems very possible to me, though I do have a couple theories of my own. One theory is that Shi En had at some point made some sort of demonic pact that granted him great power, the kind of power that would allow him to slay entire armies. Another theory I have is that Shi En somehow came into possession of some sort dark mystical item that granted him the same sort of power. We may never know the whole truth about this great warrior who became shogun. But one thing does seem certain, there’s something very dark about Shi En.
That wraps it up for this post. I’ll do another post about a couple other members of the Legendary Six Samurai later. So until then, stay tuned.
