Deck Videos: Cyberse 1

Hello again everyone. For those who read the recent post in my Random Thoughts world, you'll be happy to know that I seem to be over my depression. I'll admit that I'm still having some difficulties with some of my various writing projects, but it's not bothering me as much as it was before. I guess that yesterday was just kind of a bad day. Anyway, I ran across the following video late yesterday afternoon on a Cyberse deck like the kind used by Yusaku, the main protagonist of VRAINS. I've actually been building and refining a Cyberse deck of my own ever since VRAINS first started. I began by getting two copies of the 2017 Starter Deck and merging the key cards from both into a single deck, and since have been gradually adding various cards from each booster set and compatible Structure Deck and Starter Deck to come out since that time.

Needless to say, these deck videos on YouTube have been pretty helpful with this little project. There are quite a few videos on this particular type of deck, with four or five new videos coming out with each new booster set. This next video is of a Cyberse deck featuring new cards from the upcoming Savage Strike booster set, which introduces Yusaku's Synchro Monster, Cyberse Quantum Dragon to the game. Take a look.

There'll probably be more new videos to come over the course of the next few weeks once Savage Strike actually hits store shelves, and I'll eventually add some of those videos to this post. For now though, I honestly have to admit that I don't entirely agree with how this deck is set up. The main problem I have with it is the use of Cyberse Magician in the deck. Don't get me, I love Ritual Monsters. Two of my favorite monsters of all time in this game are Black Luster Soldier and Relinquished. Plus I simply like the whole occult feel that Ritual Monsters have. The illustrations of those Ritual Spell cards often make me wonder about how the ceremony for the ritual being depicted would go in the anime and manga (like the ceremony in Resurrection of Chakra, for example).

The thing about Ritual Monsters though is that they need a lot of support in order to work well. The whole deck pretty much needs to be devoted to getting the Ritual Monster onto the field. Unfortunately, Cyberse decks don't have any of their own Ritual support cards beyond Cyberse Witch. While Cyberse Witch can add both Cyberse Magician and the Ritual Spell that summons him to the hand, this effect requires you to banish a Spell Card from the Graveyard in order to activate. The thing about Cyberse decks is that they tend to be very monster-heavy decks. Most Cyberse decks run a minimum of at least twenty-five monsters. The deck in the video we just saw used twenty-eight monsters in its Main Deck. Because of this, it can be kind of late in the game before a Spell Card ends up in the Graveyard, but because of the placement of her Link Markers, Cyberse Witch needs to be played within the first few turns.

Of course when it comes down to it, the main goal of a Cyberse deck is to Link Summon. That's why the decks have such high monster counts. Performing a Ritual Summon is secondary for a deck like this. I tried using Cyberse Magician and Cyberse Witch in my own Cyberse deck right after the Cybernetic Horizon set came out, and it didn't work out well. I was so discouraged by this that I didn't want to have anything to do with the card game for at least a month. So as cool as the card is, my recommendation is to just avoid using Cyberse Magician completely. Because there's no support for the card outside of Cyberse Witch, it's just too much trouble to use, and I strongly doubt we'll be getting further support for Cyberse Magician anytime soon.
