Nium walked all around the town, gathering edible food. He found a little bit of food, but not enough to last a long time. He walked to the entrances of the radiation shuters and knocked as loud as he could. He got a response, but it was talking through a box, they wouldnt let him into the town.
He negotiated for a long time and finally got medice and food from them. They had enough to live on for about a month at least so he decided to leave. Nium walked around to an opening in the rock and followed the tunnel to a big metal door. When he approached the door, he found a big latch and a big switch. He undid the latch and pulled the switch. The door flew open and he stepped into the big sand patch outside.
He steeped out of the cave and for the first time in his life, saw the sun. It was so bright that he was blinded at first. When heregained his sight he looked at the outside world, it was barred. Sand covered all he saw, there were no plants or animals that he could see, and it had a surprising heat. As soon as he took in the sight of the open world, he started to walk.
He heard a little yawn from his arms and stopped walking. Nium looked down at Reny covering her eyes with her small hands and smiled. He sat her down on the sand and took of his pack, setting it beside them. Reny stretched with her arm as she looked around, seeing Nium she jumped up and hugged him as best as she could.
Nium picked her up and twirled her around a little then set her back down. He grabbed her teddy bear and some fruit from his bag and handed her the food saying "you gotta be hungry". She suddenly look starved as she recieved the fruit, she shoved it into her mouth and ate it as fast as she could.
"Where am I? What happened?" she asked. Nium sighed and explained what had happened in the town and why they were walking outside. "Isnt it bad to be up here?" was her last question.
"You would have been dead already if it was" he replied. "It looks like you are immune to radiation" he continued, "and I am about the same."
Reny stood up and picked up the teddy bear by its chest and walked to the top of the sand dune they were resting on. Nium grabbed the bag and followed, at the top of the hill he could see where the sand turned to a forest. He put on his pack and poked Reny's head. Nium pointed to the trees and explained where they were going.
Reny walked a little bit ahead of Nium as they walked in the direction of the trees. At night, Reny's little body was tired out and she fell asleep as they made camp. He set up the tent, and made a fire like how it said in the survival book he found in a box at the exit door. He set Reny down inside the tent and took out his uncles sword. He unsheathed the sword and looked at it for a little while, taking a cloth and rubbing the blade clean of sand.
