You've got a smile that could light up this whole town.
I thought it was going to be just a regular walk through the forest; looking at trees, observing nature, finding tracks. Everything that's boring to me.
But I never thought I'd find someone so sweet in the forest. Or, find out something about my best friend that I'd never known.
---------------------
"But I don't want to go on a walk!" I whined to my best friend Skylar. He was just one year older than me at seventeen years old, and he thinks he can boss me around, but I couldn't ask for it any other way.
"Come on, please, Keira? You're coming with meeeeee." Skylar smirked and winked, his blue green eyes contrasting against his red hair dazzling me. I couldn't help myself when he did that, and I sighed in surrender as he won once again.
We went right after, going with what we had on us now. The forest guides were providing us with everything we needed because it was only a three hour hike. And, it was just the two of us, so we could walk as slowly as we wanted to. Birds chirped, rivers ran, and sounds of nature flooded our ears instead of the usual city life.
Skylar suggested we stop at a river and sent the guide off, since we could follow the trail right back to where we started. He dropped his pack on a rock and lay down where he was, closing his eyes. "Are you going somewhere?" Skylar asked me with his eyes closed. I swore under my breath; Skylar always knew when I was doing something.
"Yes, I'm going to have a look around." My camera was dangling from my neck as I walked away to take some photography. There were so many possibilities of what I could photograph that it was too hard for me to decide. I stared up at the tree tops and the sun peeking through when a rustle from around me startled me. "Who's there?" I called out, slightly afraid of what could be lurking around.
"Just another person," said the voice, slightly tenor in tone. I turned to see who it was, and a guy with blonde shaggy hair and bright blue eyes came out from behind the trees with a smile that could light the room. "I'm Hayden. The pleasure is mine." He offered out his hand in greetings as I took it and shook it.
"Keira. And it's nice to meet you, too." I smiled genuinely at him. "Would you like to come back with me to meet my brother? We're about to get off the trail and head home." My sudden courage of inviting this person I've just met surprised me, but Hayden nodded and said yes.
'
We trecked back to Skylar and made our way back on the trail, arriving where we started about an hour later. Hayden came home with us, and there was obviously a connection between us. I looked in the rear view mirror and saw a look in Skylar's eyes that I'd never seen before. Something along the eyes of jealousy. His eyes darted up and met mine, and I looked away quickly, directing my eyes down at my hand entwined with Hayden's.
It was still early when we got home, three o'clock being the time. "Why don't we go to the mall?" Hayden asked mostly me. I looked over at Skylar who was just coming out of the bathroom. I looked at him with pleading eyes and eventually gave in. At the mall, Hayden kept me close at his side, our hands never separating. Everywhere we went, people looked at us, two young kids in love. And at that moment, I thought I was, and I was positive that Hayden felt the same way.
Unless he was one of those man whores that liked to mess with girls just to get in their pants.
We walked into FYE, and Skylar stalked off in a different direction than the one Hayden and I were walking in. He led me by hand to the back of the store where the posters were and pulled me to him in the corner. "You know I'm starting to really fancy you," Hayden whispered quietly as he nuzzled my ear. I simply nodded as he tilted up my chin and pressed his lips to mine slowly and my eyes fell shut. Everything felt perfect and time stopped completely until the sound of a familliar voice caused me to come crashing back down to earth.
"KEIRA WHAT THE HELL!" I jerked away from Hayden to see a frustrated Skylar staring back at me, clear hurt on his face. Hurt, betrayal, and for reasons I didn't understand. "Sorry, Hayden, hold on." I ran after my best friend, worried about what was wrong.
"SKYLAR!" I shouted as I spotted him walking away, running faster. "Skylar come back!" He stopped in front of the Hot Topic and I nearly ran into him and would've knocked him over, if he hadn't caught me. "Skylar... what's... wrong?"
Skylar was silent for awhile and wouldn't look me in the eye. He pulled me around the corner and outside of the mall and pushed me up against the wall. "This is why," he simply said before he pushed his lips against mine just a little too forcefully. I hadn't had water all day, and running just now had dehydrated me, and I couldn't help but black out.
