This post is for all the Yu-Gi-Oh! fans. Specifically those who play the card game. There is a new type of monster card coming to the card game. These monsters are called Exceed monsters. Here are the details I know so far. The Exceed monster cards are black in color, opposite the white Synchro monsters, and have their level stars extending from the right-hand side of the card instead of the left-hand side. Sort of like how they appeared on the Dark Synchro monsters in the 5D's anime. The stars on an Exceed monster don't represent a level though, they represent a rank. Also, the Exceed monsters go into the Extra Deck with the Fusion and Synchro monsters. Here is how an Exceed Summon works, at least as far as I can tell. To start with, you need two monsters with matching levels face-up on the field, let's say two level fours. You take those two monsters and stack them on top of each other. Than you take the Exceed monster who's rank matches the level of the stacked monsters, and place the Exceed monster on top of the stack. So if you're using two level fours, than you're trying to summon a rank four Exceed monster. In the future, there will probably require more than just two monsters to summon. I should also point out that the only known rank four Exceed so far has 2500 attack points, so summoning one of these Exceed monsters is no waste of time. I should also point out that an Exceed Summon counts as a Special Summon. There will also be cards that exploit the material monsters stacked under an Exceed monster, and many of them will probably be the Exceed monsters themselves. There are still a few details about Exceed monsters that are unknown, and once they are known I'll go into the more mechanical details of using Exceed monsters in my Yu-Gi-Oh! Workshop world. Right now though, I'm only talking about my opinion about Exceed monsters, and right now I think these new monsters are going to completely change the card game. It's just like when Synchro monsters came out back in 2008. I'm not saying that the Exceed monsters are a bad thing. Quite the opposite actually. I'm looking forward to tinkering with these new cards. All I'm saying is that this is a major game change. Never before has there been anything involving stacking cards on top of each other in this game. It certainly makes things more interesting. I remember back when Synchro monsters came, a few of duelists retired from the game. The same thing happen again. Well, whatever happens, these new Exceed monsters will be available in the 2011 Starter Deck, which will be available in North America on May 31st, so mark your calendars. In the meantime, I would like to hear what those of you reading think of these new Exceed monsters. Those of you who play the card game that is. Thanks for reading.
