Ladies and gentlemen, Journey.
Hello everyone. I know, it's been a long time since I've posted anything here on TheO. I think my online classes are partially to blame for that. Taking two of those classes in the same semester seemed like a good idea on paper, but it's proved to be a lot more time consuming than I thought. It certainly hasn't helped that the instructor for one of my classes has some kind of unrealistic expectations in regards to due dates. I've barely had time to work on my fan fiction writing, let alone wallpapers. Thankfully though, the semester's almost over. After this week, I'll only have two weeks left. Of course I've already signed up for another class in the summer, but hopefully that won't be as time consuming a class as my current two.
Anyway, one of the reasons for this post is to share kind of an interesting experience I had this afternoon. One of the assignments for one of my classes was to interview a library director/supervisor/manager. So at my aunt's suggestion, I decided to meet with the library supervisor of the college library at the campus where I studied art and animation, back in the old days when I thought I'd make a career out of that. Before and after the interview I decided to walk around the campus since I hadn't been there for a while. It's amazing how much the place has changed over the years, yet there were many things that were still the same. The experience sure brought back some memories. Some good. Some maybe not so good.
There was a tiny hint of sadness too, I think. Not to mention a little bit of guilt. I studied long and hard at that campus and left there thinking I'd be some big time animator or artist. Then I come back years later still unemployed and once again a student, studying to go into a field that's totally not art. I couldn't help but feel that I let down all the people I knew at that campus. But then the professional art field wasn't exactly what I thought it'd be. I probably would've had to uproot myself and move far away from the members of my family. Chances are I would've ended up as just a meaningless cog in a giant animation machine, helping to turn out hundreds of animated misfires each year. The bottom line is I focused so much on the degree I earned that I never quite thought about what would come afterward.
Overall, I kind of enjoyed the visit to my old campus. Sometimes a bit of reflection on the past is a good thing. Another thing I did today was finish rereading the volumes of the Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's manga that I have. I have to say that while the manga's story doesn't even hold a candle to the anime version, there are some things that I like about it.
- Leo and Luna are evil for most of the story.
- Yusei, Aki, Jack and Kiryu use some pretty cool cards.
- The story has a rather sympathetic portrayal of Rudger Goodwin, not to mention a cool alter ego for him.
I think that's pretty much all there is to talk about for this post. Until next time.
