Old Discs

Hello everyone. I thought I'd do a post to let everyone know how I've been doing since I haven't done a post here for a few days. Of course I have been somewhat active here during the past week. I did this piece of fan art and this wallpaper. Both of which were humble attempts of mine to highlight the small similarities between Sword Art Online and the original Yu-Gi-Oh! series. Specifically the similar concepts of SAO and the original Yu-Gi-Oh! manga's Monster World arc and the fact that both stories use games of a sort as the stage of battle. I actually did a crossover fanfic between Yu-Gi-Oh! and SAO called Monster World Online, which was followed by a sequel called MWO2: Fairy Masquerade. Both stories can be found on FanFiction.Net, and an easy way to get to them is by visiting my profile on that site (a link to which can be found in the intro to this world). Or if anyone wants, I can PM them a link to both stories. Of course lately I've been looking at those stories as kind of a failure on my part. It could be that my judgement is being colored by this one negative yet fair review the first story got, but I've been looking at both those stories and thinking that I could've done a whole lot better with them.

Anyway, I've had a fairly relaxing few days since this month started. I've been re-reading the original Yu-Gi-Oh! manga again, which I do every year around this time. I've also been working on a new project at the archive I help out at, which is backing up old computer discs from the 1980s onto the main hard drive using this old computer we keep around just because it still works with those old discs. I have to admit, it's kind of fun working with old technology like those discs, but then I've always been fond of that retro 80s charm. It's one of the reasons why I'm a fan of the classic Pokemon, Porygon (that, and because it's an artificial life form). There are some people who seem to like to bash on the 80s, but there's a lot of good stuff that came out of that decade.

The 80s was a decade that produced some really good music. It was a time when Phil Collins and Journey were at their best. In fact, whether it was a song from his solo career or with his band Genesis, Phil Collins had a chart-topping hit in every year of that decade. There were also more than a few really good movies that sprang from the 80s. The following are the films I can think of off the top of my head.

  • Predator
  • Aliens
  • The Terminator
  • The Abyss
  • White Nights
  • Against All Odds
  • Die Hard
  • Highlander
  • Ladyhawke
  • Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
  • Ghostbusters
  • Poltergeist

And those are just the movies I can think of right now. Another good thing that the 1980s gave us is the show, Magnum P.I. So yeah, all in all the 80s is a decade I'm quite fond of. Anyway, I think that about does it for this post. I hope everyone else is doing well too.
