Food for Thought

Hello everyone. Earlier today I came across this article on the Anime News Network that kind of made me stop and think. So I thought I'd go ahead and share it here with everyone. So if anyone's interested, please go to the article by clicking the link below and then come back to read the rest of this post.

The reason this article spoke to me is because I've seen a few posts from two or three people here on TheO who's said that they've kind of lost interest in anime. When it comes to people like them, I think there's a whole lot of truth in what the above article said. In my case, I don't consider myself any more or less of an anime fan than I was when I first discovered the art form, but I have found that when it comes to anime and manga I've developed my own high standards based on my personal tastes. I do remember though that in my early days as an anime fan I wanted to try out every anime series under the sun, especially since I didn't have a whole lot of access to anime in those days. Back then, my cable provider didn't carry the Cartoon Network, so I wasn't able to watch Toonami. Plus there was not and still isn't any place in my hometown where I could easily get anime DVDs or manga.

But as the years have gone by and I've seen more and more anime and manga, I've figured out the kind of anime I like and the kind that I don't like. And when it comes to newer anime shows and new manga, I found that I have become a bit selective. Most of the time I'll either see what some of the reviews on the Anime News Network or my friends say about an anime series before I decide to try it out. So when it comes to the people I've mentioned before who say they're no longer into anime, I think maybe they've developed their own high standards when it comes to the art form and don't even know it. Just something to think about.
