All For The Gods

Continued From: Mission Complete...?

Sitting in the cave Sumi had wrapped Toshiro in a blanket to keep him warm, his head still on her lap. Her cheeks stained from her falling tears. She brushed the hair away from his left eye again looking down on the mask that had formed around that eye. Her mind ran wild as of when and how this happened and she wondered if the mask was why he was having such problems with keeping the arrancar side under control. Her mind so wrapped in Toshiro at that time nothing of what happen to her nor concern about Aizen or Ulquiorra crossed her mind. She just wanted Toshiro to wake up and be alright. So many emotions were coursing through her body at that moment she did not know if she wanted to scream, cry, laugh or kill something.

Again she thought, “What was this all for? Why did innocents have to get involved?”

Her new found feelings still wrapped themselves around her mind and heart. Her seraph memories still vivid in her mind. Her chest hurting, cheeks wet form tears. She was truly scared and did not know what to do. She feared for Toshiro, feared for herself. Unable to take anymore she lifted her hands to her face and wept into them.

Why? That question that haunted her daily and the never ending search for the answers she will never receive. Even if she lived for another 1000 years; that haunting question will never be fully answered. Sumi wept herself to sleep exhausted from everything she experienced in last 24 hours.

“So revolting!”

Sumi looked up quickly to the voice, “What are…”

“I doing here?” Phoenix laughed raising her arms to the surroundings around her, “Your home, Sumi. Can’t you feel the reiryoku swirling around you or have you been so busy feeling sorry for yourself to notice?”

“I…I am home? How?” Sumi asked.

Phoenix laughed again, “Sorta… you’re in Chi no Shizukarei ‘land of peaceful souls’. Your prodigy came to us. It appears he is protecting you. A little shift in duties for him, but…” Phoenix shrugged her shoulder tuning she looked around the cave, “he thought of everything.” She gave a soft chuckle turning back to Sumi which was still sitting with Toshiro’s head on her lap. “But he did not think of the fact that if they try hard enough and contact the right god. Soul Society and Las Noches souls can enter here.”

Sumi moved quickly from under Toshiro causing his head to drop from her lap, her eyes narrowed as she stood before Phoenix, and for the first time she felt rage building inside of her, “You wouldn’t dare!?”

Phoenix grinned ear to ear as Sumi grabbed her shirt front and jerked her forward. Phoenix' eyes widened as Sumi lifted her from the ground her feet dangling below. “You help him then turn on him?!” Sumi flung her arm around pointing at the lifeless Toshiro lying on the ground, “The Gods did this to him to save their own asses.”

Phoenix chuckled softly as she looked into Sumi’s eyes, “Yes! And I must say they did a wonderful job with you.” She then vanished from Sumi’s hold and reappeared across the cave dusting herself of the wrinkles Sumi caused in her outfit. “I will have to be more on my toes with you now, “She looked to her, “That arrancar temper of yours is brutal on ones outfit.”

Sumi stomped toward Phoenix as she still straightened her outfit, clinching her fist tightly she heard Phoenix sigh and say, “But there is still the barrier they have to get through.”

Sumi stopped cold in her tracks looking at Phoenix, “Toshiro said no one but him could get in or out of the barrier.”

Phoenix chuckled looking at Sumi, “Then there is only one way for you to get out and return to your master.” Phoenix looked deep into Sumi’s eyes, “can’t you hear him. He calls to you. He wants you back at his side. I think it is time you return. Kita. Return back to your master.” Phoenix lifted her hand reaching toward her. Sumi froze she could not move. The only thing she could do was watch and think.

“What is she doing? Why did she call me Kita?” Sumi thought as she watched her reach toward her. She tried to get clear of her but could not. It was like her feet were frozen to the ground.

Reaching around Sumi’s body behind her head, Phoenix undid the clasp on the choker. The bell chimed softly as it fell down her body to the cave floor. Sumi’s eyes were fixed on Phoenix.

“His tack in completed,” Sumi heard her say. “Return to your master and finish your assigned task as well.”

She reached behind her and pulled a jeweled dagger from behind her handing it to Sumi. “Finish the job here and go to Ulquiorra. Kita.”

Sumi’s eyes widened, but slowly begin to return to normal. A new feeling coursed over her body. The feeling of blood lust. She reached up taking the dagger from Phoenix.

“Kill the prodigy and the barrier will fall.”

Phoenix’s last words as she vanished from the cave.

Sumi, now Kita once more and in her full arrancar mind turned and walked toward Toshiro kneeled beside him. She looked down on the depleting soul reaper as she raised the dagger above his chest and started the descent of the blade toward his weak beating heart…
