All For The Gods: Part 2; Toshiro Awakens

Toshiro's eyes fluttered open just as the blade drew near. He quickly caught her wrist effectively stopping the blade just above his flesh. Kita's eyes darted from the penetration area and looked to see Toshiro's eyes open. She jerked free of his hold and leapt back from him. Her eyes narrowed and gazing down on him.

"You..."

Sitting up, Toshiro rubbed the back of his head. He wondered why it hurt. If fact, everything hurt. He recalled the events that had transpired, and his eyes shot to Kita full of concern.

"Are you ok?"

Looking at Toshiro’s soft turquoise eyes, filled with concern as he looked at her, Kita felt the blood lust slowly leaving, being replaced with regret and shame. It wash over her like rushing water. She looked to the dagger in her hand, dropping it like it was red hot. Looking from the dagger, as it lay on the cave floor, to Toshiro, she rushed toward him throwing her arms around his neck and cried.

"You're alive."

"Ow, ow, ow, ow! Yes, yes I am alive."

He held her face in his hands and looked straight into her eyes. Examining her.

"Are you ok?"

Tears flowed down her cheeks as she nodded her head. Her eyes locked with his.

"I am fine. You however where gone to everything around you. I was so worried about you. Then Phoenix showed up."

She was talking fast, shaking her head quickly as he still had a hold of her face.

"She did something to me. I don't know what, but all I wanted to do was kill you and get free of the cave so I could return to Las Noches." She fell into Toshiro again hugging him as she still cried.

"DON'T EVER DO THAT AGAIN!"

Toshiro silently listened to everything she said. He wrapped his arms around her and softly stroked her hair.

"I'm sorry. I promise I won't leave you alone again."

He held her closely as she cried. How long had he been out?

Finally settling down, Kita pulled back from their hold as she sat on her folded legs in front of him.

"The gods are using us. Phoenix told me your task was completed, which means they have no use for you any longer, and that I had to finish mine. I was to kill you and return to Ulquiorra in Las Noches."

Another tear escaped her eye trickling down her cheek. She reached toward him sliding her fingertips under his hair and pushed it aside to see the mask that had formed to his left eye.

"Do you know about this?" Her thumb brushed the hollowed mask softly. She looked back to his turquoise eyes.

A look of confusion spread across his face. He touched his eye and felt the bone. His eyes widened in shock as to what was there.

"What did they do to me?!"

"I don't know, but since you are the prodigy it is not hard for you to have both good and evil inside of you. The disguise you have been wearing could have called out that evil side, and now the Arrancar Zeshin is inside of you as well." She lowered her hand to her lap.

“Then I will deal with that later. Right now I want to know what your task is.”

Kita hung her head. "I don't know. She did not say, but I have a feeling and knowing the gods it has something to bring an end to Aizen's plans."

She looked up at Toshiro, her eyes distant. "We are never told. We are programmed to followed orders like robots."

"It's not your job to stop him. It's ours."

"’Ours?’" Kita questioned looking at him, "You mean the Soul Society?"

"Yes," he looked away from her, "Aizen was--he IS--a shinigami. He betrayed us! It is our duty to stop him!" Toshiro clenched his fists tightly. "The gods should stay out of it!"

"I know what Aizen has done. Remember who I am, Toshiro." Kita rest her hand to his tightly clenched fist. "The gods will not stay out of it. He has tipped the balance in the realms. It has to come to an end, and the Soul Society can't do it alone."

"And they can't try to take over either!"

He got up and started pacing around the room. That's when it occurred to him.

"Wait. Why would the gods want me dead? They said my task is done, but that's not entirely true."

Kita still sat to the cave floor as her eyes followed Toshiro as he paced.

"They won't take over. That is not what Gods do. They only act when and if they have to, but now I wonder if their help is no better than what Aizen is doing."

She avoided his question about his task ending as she looked away from him.

He slowly turned to look at her. "You didn't answer my question. Why am I to be killed by the gods?"

Not looking his way Kita asked, "Why did you bring us here to Kokudo no Tenteira, Toshiro?”

"It was the only place I thought you would be safe. You and everyone else."

"Everyone else?" She questioned, "You mean... you?" She caught his hand as he walked past and pulled him down in front of her. "What are you thinking?"

"I mean innocent people in the Soul Society. In the Human Realm. I knew that Aizen would send an army. Best if he sent one then no one else will get hurt."

Kita shook her head then looked in his eyes. "He will send no one. He knows in time I will come to him." She looked deeper into his turquoise eyes. "Please tell me what you're thinking, Toshiro. I can help much better if you do."

"I'm thinking....I don't want you to suffer anymore. I want it to end. And I'm trying to figure out how."

She sighed lowering her head. "That is not possible. I wish it were, but I am a seraph. Just as you are the prodigy." Her tone low and remorseful.

"I don't know about you, but I will not sit idly by and be pulled around like a puppet on a string. If I believe the gods are wrong, then I WILL defy them."

Kita rose to her feet looking down at Toshiro. "I was created. Unlike you, I have never lived my own life. Until the other day I didn't know what it is like to feel, to love, or fear, be angry or even cry. Unlike you, I don't know anything else but how to be a seraph." A tear formed in her eyes and trickled down her cheeks.

"Excuse me." Kita turned and started walking off.

"Perhaps it's time you did." He walked over to her and gave her a hug from behind. "You have a heart now. Use it."

Kita lifted her hands resting them on Toshiro's arms that were wrapped around her from behind as he gave her a hug.

"So far all my heart has done is break."

Her words soft and hardly audible. Tears fell to Toshiro's arms and her hands.

"It's does get better. Especially, when you have friends."

Nodding, Kita broke free of Toshiro's hug. "Without you, Juushiro, and Kisuke I don't know what I would have done."

She turned looking at Toshiro. She raised her hand cupping his cheek in it. "You’re very kind, with a good heart. Never lose that, Toshiro Hitsugaya."

"It's not in my plans to, but the same applies to you as well." Toshiro checked the time on his Soul Pager. "It's almost time....."

Kita looked at him surprised at his last comment as she lowered her hand. "All most time? Time for what?" She asked.
