SNOW!!!

I'm telling you, I have never in my life been so excited and happy to see snow in my life. If you know me well, you'll know that I'm usually pretty apathetic towards it. But I think because it's been like, two or so years since I've seen snow, I'm pretty excited.

I was telling my brother this last night and he's like, "What are you talking about? We had snowmaggedon last year!"

My retort was that I was in Argentina at the time and so missed out. (And yeah, so, I was in Antarctica too...but you expect snow there--not here.)

Square Two

Yesterday I got laid off from my most recent job. It wasn't a total shock, because the contract was originally set for three weeks--it was only a matter of time. We all got dropped so quickly, though, that I'm a little upset about it. I didn't get to say good bye to my co-workers and now there's some unfinished business I've got with the company.

I tried to reconcile said unfinished business with the company this morning but hoo, boy, that company is tight-lipped and tight-doored (I'm making my own phrases here). No form of public relations whatsoever. Can't even walk three steps inside without being an employee. And that's the trouble, isn't it? I mean, I get their reasoning, but still, you'd think....

So back to my frustratingly inconsistent job.

In other news, I got a text from my friend this morning. She had her baby. Even though I'm still kinda weirded out by the fact that one of my friends now has children (or a child, rather), I'm happy for her. It's a girl. She told me they were going to be back in the area early next year before they spend six months in her husband's country. It will be exciting to see them all.

Multipule Choice Question

When a company gives its employees gifts (and some very expensive gifts) is it:

A) A gesture of appreciation for recent 10 and 12 hour days and exceeding quota

B) Clever marketing

C) Bait to make you work harder

D) All of the above

Progress...I Guess

I felt I should update and say what I've been up to, although it's nothing exciting.

So I'm still working as a video game tester, but very sporadically. They didn't give me work for three weeks. I thought, "I can't live like this!" and went hunting for a second job. I landed one, with another video game company, working in an assembly line. I'm now convinced that assembly line work is a certain kind of hell but I'm managing, I suppose. I go through weird phases of how I feel towards work: despair, anger, ambivalence, determination, etc, etc. This last week we were working 12 hour shifts. That was really tough. I ended up aggravating my old shoulder injury from a couple of years ago, so I got time off today and a half day yesterday. We're supposed to drop down to 10 hour shifts but we'll see how that goes.

I guess my parents got tired of driving me to the bus station at 4:30 in the morning (it's like 5 minutes away) and shipped me off to [insert city name here], which cuts my commute time in half. But I'm especially unhappy about this, since I kind of hate the city. Bah, I should just get a car.

Aaaaannnndddd...that's about it. No time for life between work and sleep. My plan this weekend: nurse my shoulder and on-going head cold.

Hope you are all in better health and better free-time!

Homesick

Today at work I realized I was feeling homesick, which is kind of ridiculous, since I'm still living at home. Which says something about my life, I think. And my work schedule.
