Has anyone ever read a version of Cinderella that isn't the Disney version? It's much different, more different than Sleeping Beauty was (which isn't much different at all). You should read it, if you get the chance.
When Spirited Away first came out, I read a review of it that said it was a Cinderella story and then after I saw it, I thought, "It's nothing like Cinderella!" After learning a little about Cinderella, I take that back. Spirited Away is definitely a Cinderella story.
-Chihiro is seperated from her parents (Cinderella's mother dies and her father is always gone)
-She is forced to "work among the ashes"
-During this hard work, she is able to see her own value
-Haku is able to see her for who she truly is even though she can't remember who she is(like the Prince is able to recognize Cinderella)
I'm using the Grimm version of Cinerella, by the way. So, so far there hasn't been any ruining by Fairy tales and Fantasy. I really like learning about these interpretations. It's like when I found out that the Wizard of Oz was about the Guilded Age....I guess I'm kind of a dork like that.
Anyway. Our first anime club meeting was last night. We had about a third of the people who signed up come. Didn't get a lot of response out of them but it was our first meeting so I suppose I shouldn't have been so expectant. I'm hoping it will get better from here.
In other things, my cousin, thinkanti, might be coming down to see me this weekend and I'm very excited.
But right now I've got a lot of homework to do....I hope you all enjoy your weekends. Till next time.
