Hi I'm Dranzerstorm
You may remember me as a regular contestant on the caption battle contest.
Welcome to Retro Retrospective, my world dedicated to the old guard of the Otaku world; expect some reviews of the old & obscure, and in-depth geeky knowledge with the occasional top ten and I now have a logo.

Little info about me
Well I'm British and I'm in to all things animated and nostalgia.
I've grown up with every cartoon going and have watched hundreds of anime.
Oh and to answer a question I was asked once, no I don't wear glasses in real life, I would wear Loke's sunglasses though.

Top 100 Worst Anime 100-91

Strictly speaking these are the anime least likely to stay on this list once this is done.

100. Danganronpa
The big reveal in the games sort of ruined the whole thing, so I find it harder to watch now because of it.

99. Flame of Recca
I actually love Flame of Recca but the anime was so poorly made, an ugly bleached colour palette with a not so flattering art style, more money was spent on the box art.

98. Twin Signal
Twin Signal is a guilty pleasure but it's opening out right lies about what to expect, yes it's an OVA but they had three episodes! Some OVAs do better with less.

97. Love Hina
A poorly rendered, poorly structured anime adaption, the manga was so much better. Add in some weird decisions and characters who look embarrassed to be there.

96. DNAngel
It promised so much but I found it so boring, just couldn't sit through it.

95. High School Kimengumi
The joke is they all have weird faces, that's the only joke they have.

94. Gravitation
Found the characters irritating, the music is the only reason this isn't much higher.

93. Street Fighter Alpha
Both films were low points for different reasons, one made no sense the other was abysmally dull.

92. Labyrinth of Flames
A throw away title with not much to offer, very low brow anime.

91. Akikan
Probably the lowest form of waifu anime before it was a meme. Drink can waifus who battle.

Koihime Musou Review

This has been a long time coming.

Aisha is a well known Bandit killer who travels the land as a warrior using the name Kan'u Uncho, the Japanese name of Guan Yu from the Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Along the way she forms bonds with many companions who would join her in later serving under Ryubei Gentoku which is Liu Bei in the Three Kingdoms, so essentially if you are familiar with Dynasty Warriors we are going through events in the Three Kingdoms stories through the eyes of the Shu Kingdom and Ryubi's most trusted generals but that's where the homages end, as this is a waifus only anime, everything is altered to be more adorable, lighter in tone, a lot of ecchi with no males to gaze at them and even the supposed bad guys being good, for example, the one based on notorious warrior Lu Bu looks after puppies.
This being one of the earlier waifu titles it's a good litmus test to see if this genre works for you.
In my case, it's adorable, funny and very wholesome but I can also see that it tries a little too hard to throw in fanservice, looking at you Soso Motoku but thankfully it never goes too far despite name dropping Soso.
There was never a dub, but a show like this isn't always the best choice for one.
Final Verdict: I suggest watching it to see if you even like this kind of genre, it does everything a Waifu anime should do, be wholesome, cute and a little ecchi without the male gaze. You don't lose anything trying.

Top 100 Worst Anime Dishonorable Mentions

It's been a large undertaking but I finally finished the top 100 worst anime but there were some that missed the list.

Loveless
It looks like a terrible yaoi title but I've barely seen enough to justify it.

Saiyuki
I'm still debating whether to justify this or not as on one hand this series is just barely on life support as it keeps going but one of the reasons why is the manga artist's poor health, so I'll be kind.

Yu-Gi-Oh Franchise
There was enough good to avoid it being dropped on this list, I can say the same about the next title.

Beyblade
Beyblade peaked at G Revolution and was never good again, granted my views are bias and I'm being very unfair at times to the modern series but I don't call myself Dranzerstorm without some serious respect to G Revolution.

Urotsukidoji
Infamous for being the peak of terrible ultra violent anime, it's kinda tame now.

Mad Bull 34
It's utter insanity but not terrible.

Apocalypse Zero
See above statement, in this anime's case it's also stylized insanity.

Infinite Ryvius
It's another contender for worst anime of the 90s, if I can remember what happens, it's so forgetful I literally have nothing to write about.

Android Ana Maico 2010
If it's still around but I doubt it, I once said that I would never review this but like Infinite Ryvius it's because there is nothing to write about.

Kodomo no Jikan
I wasn't as offended as others but it's pretty bad.

Hentai
Obvious reasons, website rules, they are intentionally bad and would likely fill most the list, this includes Boku no Pico, the joke just isn't funny anymore.

Any Anime bad for a terrible English Dub
That's on the dubbing team not the anime itself, I wouldn't judge my own country's cartoons on poor international dubs so why should I criticise Japan's.

AD Police Files Review

After a delay were back with more reviews.

Set before the events of Bubblegum Crisis, the series looks into the AD Police and their daily fight against rogue boomers often centered around the growing themes of cybernetic replacement body parts and the question of how human are you despite the parts making you act more boomer than human. Now a subject like this needs the up most care and attention like a surgeon preparing for surgery, except the surgeon has been handed a blunt chainsaw. At least you can say Bubblegum Crisis had some form of restraint, AD Police not so much. It's aesthetic really conjures up some disturbing imagery making it very difficult to offer sympathy for each character especially the last two. Considering Bubblegum Crisis is cheesy 80s cyberpunk this is way darker and struggles as a result, just another ultra violent show.
Dub is not bad, nothing to write home about.
Final Verdict: A great idea executed with the finesse of a ninja wielding a machine gun, it's not really that good.

One Pound Gospel Review

It's obvious that I'm writing more reviews on the basis of a certain virus preventing me from going out, I haven't got it but I'm stuck regardless so lets keep going.

Kosaku is a very talented boxer but recently he's had food problems in which he over eats, causing him to fail his weight class and puke up in the ring from body blows. After mistaking Kosaku for a starving beggar, Sister Angela, a nun in training hopes to steer Kosaku on the right path to regain his career but Kosaku will need all the help he can get.
This is really good writing, the chemistry between Kosaku and Angela feels real, Kosaku's food struggles are very relatable speaking from experience and I find it utterly hilarious that Angela can drink pretty hard even though she's probably not supposed to, it even made for a half decent live action version. It's also a very digestible sized OVA as it manages to do pretty much it's entire story in 50 minutes, wish I could say the same about Rumiko Takahashi's other works.
No dub but it still managed a licensed DVD in the west, it might get one if it gets a re-release.
Final Verdict: This is a good OVA, it goes to show that Rumiko Takahashi can write a decent story without going over a hundred episodes and deal with some real mental disorders instead of constant lol romance comedy.
