THANK YOU
“Oy, Kyon.” Haruhi’s loud voice was louder than the chatting in the classroom as the final bell rang. I turned to the brunette girl with the orange hair band as I packed up my things. “Kyon, I’ve got something to tell you.” She said, almost demandingly.
I sighed. A confession of love? That figures.
“It’s nothing to do with love or any of that crap. I don’t feel that way about you. I just….I just need to tell you something after everyone leaves.” Haruhi smiled. There was something weird about the way she was acting, I couldn’t help but be curious.
“So why not tell me now?” I asked.
“I want to wait until the classroom’s empty, to make it more dramatic and stuff.” Haruhi’s face was softer than normal, and her hard, determined gaze was replaced with a thoughtful expression. Honestly, it was quite cute.
The teachers will still be here, won’t they…..?
“I don’t really care if the teachers hear. They don’t really care about student affairs.” She added. “I just don’t want the class to hear me. I just want to tell you something.”
I sighed. “Right.” I picked up my bag. “So what is it? What’d you need to tell me?”
Haruhi smacked my head. “Wait for everyone to leave, stupid!” she smiled. Does she enjoy hitting me? She really is enjoying this…….
I always wonder exactly how her brain works. Why wait for all the students to leave, but not care about the teachers leaving? Isn’t it the other way around? And why make it dramatic? All these questions swirled around and around in my head.
After about ten minutes, all the students had eventually filed out of the classroom. Haruhi stood in front of me, her eyebrows arched.
“So what did you want to tell me?” I casually asked, ruffling my brown hair. The atmosphere was very heavy, like a confession was about to be made.
I was prepared for anything, anything, except for what she said right then.
“No matter what….” She began. “No matter what I drag you into, no matter how much you complain about being in all of my mischief, and no matter how much of an annoying idiot I can be, you’ve stayed by my side.” Haruhi’s smile almost looked a bit serene. It was the most beauty I had—anyone had, I figured—ever seen from her.
She continued. “I just wanted to say thanks for staying with me.” She turned around. “I’m really happy that you’re around. I’m glad I can make memories with you….I’m glad you’ve stayed being my friend.” She glanced back at me, grinning. “Thanks!” She yelled. With that, she ran off, most likely to the clubroom.
Wasn’t that just a love confession……? She said it didn’t have anything to do with love. That girl lies.
I wondered in amazement at the boldness of the girl who may or may not be God. She just wanted to thank me…..Weirdo. I chuckled. I couldn’t help myself.
“If that’s what she wants…..I better give more happy memories to her.” I said to myself, walking down the hallway to the clubroom.
If she wants to thank me like that, then let her. I’m just happy that she’s happy.
I could hear a sniffle from the classroom. I turned around to see Sensei there, dabbing his eyes with a tissue. “That was so beautiful….” He cried, dabbing his cheeks. "So......Youthful....."
You know what? Sensei is the weirdest of us all……
