I thought it would be fun.... so I made up this riddle... I've only got one, cuz i'm really not that creative... but if i think of more I'll put 'em up!

When I'm up, There's always light.
Be it day, Or the middle of night.
Except for when a friend has died.
Then in darkness we must abide.
Who am I?
