Chapter 5: I’m Sorry I Can’t…

I ran out of the dining hall and down the hall and stumbled a bit. I wasn’t use to this body especially running in it. ‘If I’m going to try to have friends I need to open up to them about stuff…why is this so difficult?’ I thought shaking my head.

I wasn’t watching where I was going and ended up slipping on the freshly moped floor. “Ow…” I muttered rubbing that back of my head and sitting up.

“Are you alright?” I heard Katara’s voice from behind me a little bit out of breath.

“I-I’m fine.” I answered turning around and turning around to face her.

“Now are you going to explain to me what’s going on?” She crossed her arms and tapped her foot.

I sighed and stood up and slowly got off of the wet floor. I took a deep breath and looked down at her. “I’m Hei N-Nightray…son o-of the headmaster.” I looked away from her “D-Doc is a s-scientist that…likes experimenting…I-I’m usually the only one t-that he tests things on but…I think he p-put the same thing in…” I stopped and looked Katara to see a group of kids coming.

“Put the same thing in what?” Katara asked and I quickly pulled her over to the wall and stood in front of her. “What are you doing?” She asked trying to get away from me.

“Shhh.” I told her.

I could tell that these kids were the type that one of them probably brought actual alcohol with them and now they are all drunk. Hopefully they would just leave us alone.

“Hei, what is going on?” Katara asked trying to push me away.

“No K-Katara, stop it, p-please…” I couldn’t get her to stop. The only thing that I could think of was probably something that would end up getting me hurt in the end but it was worth a shot. I placed a hand under her chin and lifted her face up to mine and kissed her.

I listened to the group of kids pass by and they completely ignored us, which was a good thing. I waited for them to go around to corner to pull away from her.

I looked at her and her face turned bright red “H-Hei.” She stuttered.

“S-Sorry about that.” I rubbed the back of my head and looked away from her my face getting really warm.

“Umm…y-you’re m-making me stutter l-like you.” She laughed slightly.

“Listen Katara, t-the stuff that changed me, i-it was in the punch. T-the stuff has a b-bit of an alcohol taste t-to it.” I told her.

“The stuff that, changed you? Wait…if it was in the punch…I-I drank it!” She said worried.

“I-I was trying to g-get there before hand t-to tell you not to but…you or H-Hiro weren’t there.” I explained and looked down at the ground.

“H-how did you know?! What’s going to happen to me? I-I know, the headmaster! He’ll help…I’m sure of it, you’re related to him after all! Come on!” Katara said and ran towards Doc’s office.

“H-he didn’t make an antidote. I-I already asked him…It will wear off…y-yours was diluted from the punch...” I stated.

She stopped dead in her tracks, “No antidote? Does he know who just drugged the entire student body? He’s sure it will wear off.” She said to me not sounding very happy.

“I-I promise it will w-wear off. I-I’ve gone through stuff like this b-before.” I laughed sheepishly.

“…Oh. Well, when will it, h-happen to me?” She asked.

I looked at the ground and started doing the calculations in my head for when the effects of the potion would start taking effect on her. “A-about 9 pm t-tonight.” I answered.

“…” She didn’t say anything she just looked devastated.

I walked over to her and wrapped my arms around her. She hugged me back. “D-did it hurt?” She asked.

“Y-you c-can’t move and your body feels like it’s o-on fire for about a-a minuet, t-then it goes away.” I answered and looked to see what was probably her friendship bracelet stuck to her dress.

“…Oh, sounds fun. At least I don’t have a roommate.” She stated.

I pulled her bracelet off of her dress and showed it to her “F-found it.” I smiled.

She smacked her forehead “Really? I’m such an idiot…” She laughed a little and took it from me. “Thank you…oh, Hiro! We have to warn him too!” She said.

“Right.” I said and let go of her.

She turned from me a bit trying to hide her blush. “Lead the way…I’ll follow.” She said.

I nodded and we went to the dorms and ran up to Hiro’s room and mine. He wasn’t in there. “Bathroom…Higher metabolism faster reaction…” I muttered and then ran to the bathroom.

Katara stayed back in the room. When I went into the bathroom there was a kid with messy jet black hair that looked like it stopped at his shoulder blades.

“H-Hiro?” I asked going up to the kid and placing a hand on his shoulder.

He turned around and his bright orange eyes stared back at me, “Who are you?” He asked his voice a bit deeper then usually.

“I-it’s me y-your room mate, Hei.” I told him.

“H-Hei.” Tears swelled up in his eyes and he hugged me. “What happened to me?” He cried.

I explained what happened to him to get him to calm down. “Now…w-we need to go and m-make sure Katara is a-alright.” I stated and helped him up. Hiro as taller then me now, probably around two or three inches taller.

We went back to the room and I poked me head in first. “K-Katara.” I said stepping into the room.

“Yes?” She asked.

I stepped aside and Hiro walked in after me, “T-this is Hiro.” I told her.

“W-whoa Hiro…you look, so different.” Katara stated.

“Yea.” He laughed lightly.

“A-are you okay Katara?” I asked her concerned.

“I’m…I’m okay…” She trailed off.

“No your not Katara. Why don’t you sit down.” Hiro told her and had her sit down on my bed.

“I, I feel sick…” She answered.

“It…will past.” I said.

She fell onto the bed, “ I-it burns…make it stop.” She begged.

“I-it will stop in a minuet.” I answered.

She closed her eyes and she started to change.
