Princess and the Mochi [Part 2]

The party was getting set up in Chero’s penthouse. Jenny was over to help tidy up and get everything perfect. Even though there wasn’t much to do. The penthouse was already perfect the way it was. Once the place was party ready, Chero and Jenny hung out on the couch until it was time for it to start.

“I’m so excited to meet that prince tonight~ Do you think he’s a good dancer?” Chero asked.

“I dunno.” She looked over and smiled at her friend. “But good luck to you, tonight. I probably won’t stay around long enough to see you two get together.”

Chero started to whine. “But Jennyyyy!” Before she could even continue, the doorbell rang, indicating that the party was to begin.

The party crowd continued to grow larger as the hour went on. Fashionably late, the prince entered the party.

“Oooooo! Jenny he’s here!” Chero squealed, clinging to her friend’s arm. Jenny laughed.

“Yeah, he is. You go have fun with him, okay? I’m gonna head on out now.”

“Whaaaaat. But he just got here!” Chero said, trying to convince her friend but moving closer to the prince who was bowing to a group of girls.

“I know. So don’t let me get in the way.” Jenny smiled and waved, walking in the other direction.

Chero shrugged and hurried to introduce herself to the prince and welcome him to her home. Once introductions were placed, she requested a song to be played so she could dance with him. The prince came off as shy to Chero at first but softened up a bit while they danced.

Jenny was cutting through people to get to the edge of the penthouse and leave, but so many people were crowded against each other that is was hard for her to even walk without bumping into someone. She continued to mutter ‘sorry’s and ‘excuse me’s under her breath. Even though she made it known that she was passing through, a careless party-goer ran into her and spilled their drink on her outfit. “Hey!”

“Dude, watch where you’re going!”

“I’m sorry but you-“ She was cut off by the girl that spilled her drink.

“I said watch where you’re going!” She shoved Jenny to the floor and laughed as she headed back towards the drink table with her friends.

Jenny skidded out of the crowd but was still left on the floor, groaning quietly in pain. She was pushing herself up and wiping her eyes when Chero walked over. “Jenny, you won’t believe how awesome the prince is, he’s just-“ She stopped and gasped when she saw the state of her friend. “What happened?!”

Chero helped the short-haired brunette up and escorted her into her room, the only room in the penthouse that wasn’t full of people.

“Let’s just throw these clothes away.” Chero said, tossing Jenny’s first outfit into a bin. She took a spot on her bed and brushed her hair to re-freshen up for the party. “So I was wishing on a star last night after all these years. And I think it’s actually working for me. I never really believed in those things after we grew up. But I think maybe, just maybe, they really do work.” She was about to say more until she saw Jenny step out of the bathroom in the outfit that she was given to change into. “Oh, Jenny. You look so pretty.”

Jenny was dressed up in a knee-length blue dress. She felt awkward since it was a completely sleeveless dress, but she felt a bit comfortable since the dress was suitable enough to have a jean jacket go along with it. She looked up at her friend and smiled a bit. “I still feel pretty crappy.”

“But look at you! You definitely need to stay now.” Chero beamed hopefully. “But I need to go talk to the prince some more. Can’t have anyone else swipe him away.” She laughed. “Come back out when you’re ready, okay? Love you!” And with that, she hurried out again, leaving Jenny alone in the room.

She sighed as she flopped onto the king-sized bed. She really just wanted to go back home and study for her exam. But at the moment, she didn’t have a chance of being able to leave early. “Stars. I can’t see you. But please help me out here.” She was quiet for a moment to see if anything would happen. “I’ll even kiss a frog and turn him into a prince for you!”

“I may not be a frog, but maybe I’m the next best thing?”

The male voice echoed through the room. Jenny jumped and sat up quickly, looking around. “Who’s there?” She asked, trying to keep the scared tone out of her own voice. It was quiet again. Jenny sighed and set her sights on a mochi that was sitting on Chero’s dresser. “Well… I am hungry. I wonder if she’ll miss it.”

Jenny got up and walked over to the dresser, picking up the mocha and inspecting it. She was seconds away from taking a bite into it before the same male over screamed out.

“Please don’t eat me! I may look tasty… But I assure you, like this, I’m not, I’m sure!”

Jenny gasped as the mochi started to squirm in her hands. She screamed and dropped it when a face appeared on the small white ball.

“Ouch! Please be careful with me, mon cherie, that hurt!”

Jenny squeaked and tripped over her own feet, falling backwards onto the floor again. “T-talking food…!” She was glad that the party was loud enough that no one could have heard her scream.

“Now now, I know you are scared, cherie, I was too at first. But please keep it down! You’ll get used to it! Promise!” The mochi jumped over to the scared brunette.

Jenny stared at the mochi and tried hard not to freak out again. She ended up just crawling away from the moving mochi. “This is crazy. I must be tired from not sleeping a lot. Oooo this is bad. People are going to think that I’ve gone insane from studying…!”

“Mon cher, now you’re just being ridiculous. I am Francis Bonnefoy, a prince of France! And… I somehow got mixed up in something I shouldn’t have and now I’m stuck like this.” He sighed and pouted.

Jenny stopped, having reached the corner of the room anyways, and looked back. “Did. Did you say that you’re the prince that’s visiting?”

He gave a mochi nod. “Oui. And I can prove it to you~ You said you would kiss a frog to turn them back into a prince, no? And I’m sure a kiss from you will work, cheri~” He only got an odd stare from the girl. “One kiss! Promise!” He was silent before adding quietly, “Unless you wish for another~”

Jenny stared at the desperate mochi for a long time in thought. “Just… one kiss.” She was replied with a nod. She looked away and thought about it more. It wasn’t the first time she’s kissed food. Though this time would be a bit different since it’s talking. “Alright. Just. Be glad you’re not a frog.” She crawled back over to the mochi, getting a better look at it. It had royal blue eyes and a hint of stubble on the spot that should be his chin.

Sitting on her knees, the brunette picked up the mochi, brought it closer to her and kissed its tiny lips. A flash of light enveloped the room, making Francis blind for the moment. Once the flash subsided, the mochi was on the floor again. He looked around, depressed, but also noticed that the girl was gone as well, but her clothes were still left behind. “Cheri?”

“Did it work? I can’t see.” Jenny’s voice broke the silence, but the source couldn’t be found. Something small was moving underneath the left behind dress. Another, smaller mochi found its way out from under the outfit, looking around. “Why is- what is-“ the mochi looked at its reflection in a compact mirror that fell onto the ground and screamed when it saw green eyes and glasses-like marks right under. Jenny had also turned into a mochi. “I’m- this-“ she scooted away from the mirror and freaked out, running into a mochi Francis that was coming over to comfort her.

“Cheri, calm down! It is not that bad! You actually look quite cute this way~”

“Cute? Cute! I’m food! I could get eaten at any time and I- I-“ It was obvious that she wasn’t going to be able to form proper sentences anytime soon. She was too freaked out at the moment.

With all the commotion going on between the two, they ended up waking up Chero’s dog from its nap. She was curled up in the corner, hidden from view because of the shadows, so it caught the two mochis by surprise when the dog came into their sights. They froze in fear as the dog got closer to them, obviously hungry again at the sight of food.

“Uh. Cheri. I think it’s time for you to get yourself together and run!” Francis started hopping away leaving Jenny where she was.

“What…?” She turned to see the dog growling and getting ready to have herself a snack. Jenny screamed and started hopping after Francis. The dog, of course, chased them.

The mochis ran for a while until the door to the room opened to a concerned Chero. “Stella, bella! What are you doing in here?” She hurried to calm her dog down, not having noticed the mochis hiding under the dresser next to the door.

“Come, cheri.” Francis hopped out of the room and headed quickly to the balcony, Jenny following. Once they were outside where it was a bit less crowded, they settled against the wall to catch their breaths.

“You… are crazy.” Jenny huffed, quite angry at the other mochi. He pouted and turned to her. “Hey! I did not come across this form voluntarily. That magician lied to me!”

“Arthur?” Jenny asked. She shook back and forth. “He goes to my school. Everyone knows not to mess with him! I- wait. You said you’re the prince right? Then who was that who came to the party?”

“I do not know.” Francis replied bitterly. “But I want my life back! Do you think he can help us if we found him again?”

“No.” she sighed. “He gives suffering like this, he doesn’t take it away. I’ve heard too many stories.”

“Well.” He started, hopping over to the escape stairs. “Might as well start searching for someone to help us.”
