1. The Nightmare/Dream
As I lay there in my bed, shortly after midnight, I had a strange sense that someone else was in the room. It had come about an hour before, leaving me restless ever since. Why wouldn't they just go away? Well, whoever it was was getting quite annoying just by being present. Please don't laugh at my nonchalance of the situation, it was only a dream, after all. Besides, I'm rarely scared by much of anything at all, mostly more annoyed than anything.
I opened my eyes, prepared to demand they show themselves, since they obviously weren't prepared to leave anytime soon. What I wasn't prepared for, was to see the intruder-the most breathtaking blond guy I had ever seen-sitting on the edge of my bed, staring down into my eyes intently. I drew a quick gasp as my eyes widened with shock, amazement, and a twinge of fear. Call me crazy, but for some unknown reason I was actually scared of this blue-eyed angel. I sat up abruptly, trying to stifle a scream as I said in a voice, shaky with fear, "Who...Who are you?" He just smiled at me sweetly and started smoothing down my long, dark brown hair, saying " Hush my darling... there is nothing for you to fear."
I sat there in a daze as he seduced me into a state of equanimity. Our eyes had been locked for no more than a few seconds, and already I was too hypnotized by his beauty to notice how close we had gotten. I noticed when he brought his hand up slowly and gently placed it on my cheek. He leaned in as if he were about to kiss me, but i noticed at the last instant, a dark look upon his face. He was still smiling of course, but it was more of an evil smirk now, than the kind, warming smile from before. As he placed his left hand on my shoulder, I noticed his head tilting to the side slightly... which was a weird position for a kiss if you ask me...
I awoke with a start, to the sound of a light tapping on my bedroom window. For a moment I was too scared to even move. So in light of the strange dream -or was it a nightmare? Although it seemed to real to have been either- that I had just had, I assumed it was just my mind playing tricks on me. I squeezed my eyes tight shut and hoped that it would go away. It didn't. After a couple minutes the tapping sound at my window came again, only louder this time, more like a knock than a tap. So with a sigh, I got up and walked over to the window. I pulled back the long, red, velvet curtains and screamed, falling backwards as I jumped back away from the window.
A boy, about the same age as me,-and the guy from my dream, no doubt- with adorable short black hair and what seemed to be a black tux, - just as the other guy had as well- was staring in at me from outside my window. He was standing on the nearest tree branch. Looking quite annoyed, he tapped again on my window twice, with the back of his knuckle. The kid has on a sarcastic look, as if to say, " Uh,hello? I'm still out here ya know...Aren't ya gonna let me in?" I gave him a confused look of my own, but reluctantly got up and walked over to open the window.
I barely had the window opened, when the next second it flew open all the way, letting in the cool summer breeze, and apparently the boy as well...( Since he was no longer at my window.) My eyes widened, and I looked around for no more than a second before I felt a light tap on my shoulder and jumped. I turned around slowly and saw exactly who I expected it to be...there he was...standing there with the most amused little smirk on his face."My, you are slow..."he said in a sarcastic tone, and then pursed his lips, trying to conceal a small laughter.
My face grew red with embarrassment."Alright, listen here buddy...I'll have no stranger coming into my house at this time of night just to laugh at me...Now who are you?" I demanded. He has that smug, amused look on his face as I said all this, which made me even more mad at him. The boy kneeled on one knee and bowed his head. " My apologies Mistress... Please forgive me for any discomfort I may have caused you. I did not want to wake you at this hour but it's very urgent..."
I looked at him, confused yet again. Why was he calling me Mistress? And why was he so apologetic all of a sudden? Aren't guys supposed to be all stubborn and whatnot? I blushed a little and looked away from him. " Umm...It's... it's alright, no hard feelings... I mean, I forgive you..." It felt kinda awkward having this guy here in my room at this time of night and still knowing nothing about him. " Thank you Mistress...Now, for the more important matters at hand..." he reached up, gently placing my hand in his and kissed it, saying, " Please allow me to be youslave. I promise to serve and protect you for as long as you may live here in Rue Saline."
I was too shocked to speak for moments...yet he waited patiently as i collected myself and my thoughts. "Wait, my slave? What on earth are you talking about, dude?!" he looked up, to see my confused/freaked out look and stood, brushing off his pant legs to speak to me calmly."I heard about you. Coming to live with your mot her because your father was killed...Tragic really, you have my deepest sympathy,"he said with a hurt puppy look in his eyes that made me want to cry,"but thist town is no safer Mistress,I assure you. As soon as I heard about you, I chose myself to protect you... no one else could be trusted with the task, I am sure of it."
My eyes were filled with fear and more confusion as I stared into his eyes sympathetically. " What do you mean...? My mother told me I'd be safe here..." he had a sad look in his eyes which instantly turned serious."Who are you? What or who do you seem to think I need protected from?!" there was a look of horrorin my eyes as I awaited his answer.
" My name is Ammadeus. Most people here don't know it yet...but Rue Saline is one of the most deadly towns in the United States. The reason being? Rue Saline is overrun with vampires. I am one of the very few in this world who can be trusted...If you wander the streets of this town alone Mistress...you will be in grave dander. Do you trust me?" I looked into his eyes and could tell right away,he was serious. Yet I wasn't scared of him.
I thought back to the dream I had had earlier that night...maybe it wasn't a dream at all, but a premonition. It made sense now! The boy in my dream had been a vampire! And not a good one...(Like Ammadeus.) I suddenly didn't feel as though I would be safe at night anymore without someone's help, who knew what they were doing." Ammadeus, please protect me...I trust you..." I said it with sincerity and he smiled in return respectfully."As you wish,Mistress Amethyst."
