Retiring Andy Murray gets a standing ovation and a tearful farewell

British tennis icon Andy Murray has bid a tearful farewell to Wimbledon for the final time.

Murray, along with his brother Jamie Murray, lost 0-2 (6-7<6-8> 4-6) to Australia's John Pierce and Rinki Hijikata in their first round men's doubles match at the All England Club in London, England, on Friday (June 5).

Murray, who underwent back surgery last month and was expected to miss this year's Wimbledon, was eager to compete after announcing his retirement this year.

He had planned to compete in the men's singles match on the third day of the tournament, but withdrew after realizing that he was not in a position to play a five-set match.

After losing the match, Murray said he was leaving Wimbledon in tears to a standing ovation from the entire crowd.

A video of Murray's career played on a large screen inside the stadium, and the thousands of people in attendance honored him with a standing ovation.

In addition to his family - parents, wife and children - Murray was joined by fellow tennis greats Novak Djokovic (Serbia), Martina Navratilova (Czech Republic), John McEnroe (Germany) and Iga Swartek (Poland).

"I don't know if I deserve this applause, but I think (today) is a good ending for me," Murray said as he took the microphone.

"I love tennis, I want to play on the court forever, but I feel it's too hard for me physically now," he said, thanking his family, teammates, and fans.

"This tournament was a battle against the years, it was a physically demanding match," he said, adding that he was happy to be with his brother Jamie once again.

Murray is a two-time Wimbledon champion and has long been considered a tennis legend alongside Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal (Spain), and Roger Federer (Switzerland).

In 2013, he became the first British player to win the men's singles title at Wimbledon in 77 years, 고스톱사이트 and he repeated the feat in 2016.

He won back-to-back men's singles gold medals at the 2012 London and 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics and was knighted by the British royal family.

More than 10,000 fans lined up at the stadium to watch the Murray brothers play. Many people stayed up all night in front of the stadium to get tickets.

Murray will also compete in the mixed doubles event alongside US Open champion Emma Raducanu (Great Britain) on July 7. Following Wimbledon, Murray plans to retire after the Paris 2024 Olympics, which begin this month.

Paris Yi... Yang Hee-young and Kim Joo-hyung aim for the 'golden putt'

Yang Hee-young (34), who dramatically qualified for the Olympics by climbing the world rankings before the start of the Games, will be looking to repeat the feat in Paris.

Yang will be joined by Ko Jin-young (29) and Kim Hyo-joo (29) at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, which kick off on Aug. 26 (KST), as they attempt to defend their women's golf gold medal.

South Korea's Park In-bee became the first gold medalist at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, the first time golf was included in the Olympic program in 116 years. At the last Olympics, in Tokyo in 2021, she settled for a bronze medal. This year, eight years later, South Korean women's golf is back in the medal hunt.

Once the world's strongest women's golf program, South Korea's women's golf has struggled this season.

They have not won a single tournament since the start of the season until the LPGA Tour's Meyer Classic, which ended last month.

In particular, the LPGA Tour's U.S. Open, held last month, shocked the world by not having a single Korean player finish in the top 10 in 27 years.

It was Yang Hee-young who broke this frustrating trend at once.

Yang won the KPMG Women's PGA Championship, one of the LPGA Tour's majors, on March 24.

After winning her first major championship since her debut in 2008, Yang was ranked No. 5 in the Women's Golf World Ranking, which was released on March 25th. She jumped 20 spots from her previous ranking of 25th. 에볼루션 바카라사이트 She also dramatically qualified for the Olympics.

"Qualifying for the Olympics was one of my big goals this year, but I wasn't sure if I would be able to qualify because I missed back-to-back cuts in recent tournaments," Yang said after her victory, adding, "I'm really happy to have achieved my goal with this victory, and I will prepare well for the Olympics."

It will be interesting to see if Yang, who competed at the Rio 2016 Olympics eight years ago alongside Park In-bee, Jeon In-ji and Kim Se-young, can follow up her first major victory with her first Olympic medal.

Men's golf also has a player who has been performing well in the lead-up to the Olympics. That would be Kim Joo-hyung (22).

Kim finished runner-up in a playoff at the Travelers Championship, a special event on the PGA Tour, last month.

He led the field for three days from rounds one through three, but lost to world No. 1 Scotty Schauffler (USA) after a fourth-round playoff.

After struggling throughout the season, with no top-10 finishes until May, Kim rebounded with his first top-10 finish of the season at the Canadian Open on May 3, where he tied for fourth, his best result of the season, although he missed out on the title.

His world ranking also jumped from 26th to 16th (he is currently ranked 17th).

The two rebounded well ahead of the Games, and it will be interesting to see how they fare in Paris, along with women's golf's leading player, Ko Jin-young (World No. 3), national ace Kim Hyo-joo (World No. 13), and Ahn Byung-hoon (32-World No. 30), who is competing in his second Olympics.

The Olympic golf competition will be held at the Olympic Course (formerly known as the Albatros Course) at Le Golf National in Paris, France. The men's competition will take place from August 1-4, while the women's competition will take place from August 7-10.
