Chapter 1: Chocolate Hearts

Just as the sun was beginning to fall over the horizon, Mori lead her outside into the maze. This time of year it appeared to be devoid of roses, although the leaves were still a vibrant green because the grounds-keepers were very diligent workers who cared about the maze. He stopped just outside the maze, leading her no further inside, but it was plain to anyone which path she was going to follow. The rose petals littered all throughout the snow were a good enough indication now of who was behind the scheme and just where she was headed. Her boots made soft crunching noises in the snow as she followed each twist and turn until finally she stood before the marble dome in the center. In the golden light of the setting sun, she caught sight of Tamaki’s outline, dressed in a spiffy white suit that almost matched the marble, but made his violet eyes pop somehow. His face was graced with a gentle smile and he bowed low as Ran approached.

“Tamaki!” She hurriedly jogged up to stand beside him, admiring the scene around them. Unlike the rest of the maze, which was devoid of any flowers, this small clearing had roses blooming from each and every open spot in the thick bushes, looking as trimmed and perfect as if they’d come from a painting.

“Princess,” he took Ran’s hand and kissed her knuckles, earning a slight blush, before straightening again and indicating to all the roses. “I’m so sorry I haven’t been able to spend as much time with you today as I would have liked. I would have gotten you a bouquet as an apology, but I didn’t think it would be sufficient.” He smiled, leaning in close to her face. “I pray this is enough to make up for it?” Ran was shocked into pleasant silence and Tamaki pulled her against his side to watch the sunset with him. “It’s a beautiful sight, isn’t it?”

“Yes,” she breathed, enjoying both the view and the contact between them. Tamaki leaned over and whispered into her ear,

“But still not as beautiful as you, Ranny-dear.” Her cheeks flushed further, but to distract him from that, she pulled a small box from her pocket and held it up to him. He tilted his head and took it, pulling the ribbon of it slowly as he whispered a very sincere ‘thank you’. Inside the box was a bunch of small chocolate hearts about the size of a quarter each.

“I made them myself,” she muttered, biting her lip nervously. Tamaki nodded, turning one heart over between his fingers before he pushed it between her lips. Ran forgot to even chew in her moment of utter confusion, but just then, Tamaki swept in and captured her lips, also stealing the chocolate. She made a strange squeak of surprise in the back of her throat when he pulled away, licking chocolate off his top lip.

“My princess’ chocolate straight from her own lips. Nothing is sweeter.”

From somewhere in the bushes, a shutter clicked. Gabby snickered and cracked her knuckles, checking the pictures in her camera. Now these would get her quite the price with ‘Mommy’, that was for sure.

This is part one of an… X numbered series of short (or not-so-short) stories I’m writing for your Valentine’s gift! Day one and I think I’m drowning in fluff. It’s kinda short, I think, but I’m going for snippet ficlets here and this is far from my element.
Anyway, Chocolate Hearts, featuring Tamaki and Ranny-chan! Of course, I’m not a huge fan of the OHSHC and I have NO idea what Ran is like, but I tried my best, I really did! I hope you liked it and stay tuned for the next one!
