One hell of a day yesterday. After a full day of work, I get all of a half hour at home to relax and chill out before heading down to the city for Cinematic Titanic. Ride down was easier than I expected, so I got off the highway early to find a place to park and hang out while waiting for the kiddies to call and let me know they were close.
So, a little after 9 pm, I park and go into the theater, and I was chatting with a bartender and the girl from "The Onion" (A satirical newspaper). I get the call from Kat, asking me where I was.
"Inside the theater already."
"We cant see you."
"Really, I can see Tom hiding behind that beam between the sets of doors."
We chatted out in the lobby for a little over an hour, and went into the theater.
Gruber was pretty good as a warmup for the group, Q&A was hilarious. They gave out cards so we could ask the cast a question, we thought about what we could ask. We were joking around throwing around suggestions, I wanted a card to ask if Joel could buy me a beer after the show. MST3K fans were praised for their attention spans and devotion to a show that has been canceled for 10 years now.
There was a really good question, "Joel, do you ever think you will do more mainstream blockbusters?"
"Yeah, I dont think ANYONE will do that. . ."
Kats question, for us was the crowning moment of awesome for the night. She asked if Frank was available, for Nehs. Zooming spotlight to Kat when she raised her hand because Joel (and Frank) wanted to know who asked it.
"Is she here," Joel asked
"No, she's in Michigan, she couldnt make it," replied Kat
"See, having a friend in Michigan is like having a boyfriend in Canada," was the retort from Joel. . .
Needless to say, the 4 of us laughed our asses off. She thinks its because I assumed that she is stalking Joel. She is, and Joel is in turn either psychic, or stalking Kat back. Ill go for the "Mutual Stalking" theory. . .
The movie was good, and by that I mean it was terrible. But the riffing was great.
After the movie, we waited for the meet and greet. I unfortunately did not have enough money to buy a souvenir for autographs. But Ryu gave me an awesomely large John Belushi "Animal House" poster. I need to find a spot to put it now, but I will find room.
One last thought for last night, I think that theater staff might have been one of the most laid back, and coolest group of people I have ever seen working at any entertainment venue. I cant wait to go back for any other events.
