Chaos;Head

So I will try to do a review of Chaos;Head the anime.

Takumi is your typical Hikkikomori, spending all of his time in his little storage container apartment. He plays MMOs, watches anime, reads dojinshi porn, and collects a lot of anime girl figurines of his favorite character, Seira-tan. Takumi is, well, broken; he has a lot of delusions, and a lot of the time, he cannot figure out whether or not what he is seeing is real or fake.

He hates the 3D world, only leaving his home in accordance to his "Minimal Effort Program," in where he maps out the absolute least he can do and still graduate school.

After playing and apparently dominating his opponents in his favorite game "Empire Sweeper" another user starts a chat asking if he heard about the "New Generation Murders." Saying no, he receives a link containing photos of the next crime. One not even committed yet! As this young, paranoid, and delusional guy freaks out, he decided to go and play some games at the internet cafe in his favorite booth, just the thing to calm him down.

On his way home from the cafe, he comes across the scene from the pics the night before. Standing there, perforating some unknown sap with cross shaped daggers, is a young girl, smiling. And she is wearing the same uniform as he is. Needless to say, in according to anime cliche, she appears before him at school the next day. He freaks out, as usual.

The next few episodes involve Takumi freaking out, meeting more girls, and more harassment from Shogun, the user who sent Takumi the links to start this whole thing off.

I dont want to give too much away, but one part I found really cool was that the way they can make their "Di-Swords"(Delusional-Sword) appear. They carry around these huge semi-transparent blades that nobody can see. But when they "Real Boot" them, they become as real as real can be.

I really wish that this anime had kept the tone of the first couple of episodes, which I felt a lot to be like Paranoid Agent, but due to its length, it couldnt fully adapt its source material (A visual novel) properly. It has some romance/harem elements, which isnt necessarily bad, just not my taste. It also has the aforementioned suspense/horror elements, which I really did enjoy.

How can I say this? I just wish the show had kept its intensity throughout the entire 12 episodes.

As a whole, if you liked Paranoid Agent, this is kind of like a lighter version. If you enjoyed Welcome to the NHK, its like that also, with a Higurashi: When They Cry twist(Otaku USA).

On the Anime Pulse scale, I would give it a solid Netflix. Meaning a 2 out of 4.
