Sweat dripped from his brow, his mind is contemplating her words, morphing in his mind, disturbing him to his core. What did she mean? ‘Find what cannot be found and unlock the meaning to save creation, those with the power over life and death control the fate of man.’ He looked painfully at the scrap of paper clasped in his hands, looking up into the vague cloud of smoke he knew this wasn’t the time to think of what she meant.
The world around him, the city, was going to rubble, all of mans work. The rulers had come to power and now it was man against man. The town was deserted and was isolated by huge, looming walls. The sound of screaming lunged into his ears as the innocent were killed by the violent. Stepping into the sunlight, he blinked in awe at the sight of the town behind the smoke. It was dead. Completely destroyed.
The others from the rebellion group stood in morn at the scene of mayhem and looked down in disgrace. The leaders of man had shown their empty promises and used their power to enslave their own kind.
The rebellion force was small, he couldn’t fight the leaders on his own but no one would believe him that they would come to destroy. Together they stood proudly in the sun, white light shone around them.
This wasn’t a game, this was a war. What had the note meant? Find what cannot be found. The men scattered by posts and dark streets corners to watch as man and man engaged in combat before their eyes. Horror in their faces as the army of man struck down its own species.
Stepping out of the darkness, the men arose, tantalized by the blood sprayed along the ground. The unacceptable had become reality. Each man stricken with fear, they pushed through the shattered town and into its heart.
Menace crept along side him as he trudged on, the thought of being tortured and killed mentally crushed him but the thought of her being tortured and killed pierced him straight in the heart. He had to find her. She was here. In the town. Alone.
He dropped to his knees and slammed his fist to the ground, eyes filled with tears. “It wasn’t supposed to happen like this,” he words broke the silence between the men. “They weren’t supposed to get this strong.” Rising up, he dusted himself off and wiped his eyes with his glove.
