Chapter 1

“Uroboros is on the eve of its appearance.”

What was usually supposed to be the walls of a white sterile laboratory was replaced with the grayish metallic walls of a different kind of facility. Numerous monitors were flashing images of two BSAA members as they made their way inside Tricell’s facility. What should have been a desk and microscope was replaced by a control panel with a number of small tiny buttons of green and red, some blinking while the others remained lit and or unlit. And right there, watching the bright screen was a woman who looked considerably young for her age. Her flowing reddish brown hair was left loose, thus allowing her to brush back some of the strands that fell over her eyes as she observed everything with a keen interest. The eyes that glanced from one monitor to another were far from being human eyes. She might have sported the overall physique and figure, but her eyes resembled that of a serpent’s eyes or that of a cat’s; pinhole-like black slits that were shrouded by the vivid hue of dark hazel which was her natural eye color back when she could consider herself to be human. The white lab coat that she was so fond of was now replaced by a white leather trench coat that reached just above the knee. Underneath all the leather was a one piece black zippered sleeveless top that could easily pass as a cocktail dress, but of course not in any way bearing all the flashy accessories that usually came with those party attires, and for her feet she simply sported a pair of high cut black leather boots, a very nice compliment to the trench coat. On her hands she was currently tugging on some white combat gloves, not really feeling complete without them recently. Along her torso, she fiddled with her holster which housed two .45mm silver Beretta, fully loaded and ready to be used. The woman also had a number of clips attached to her. One can never be to certain when one will need extra ammunition. Right now she didn’t look like the usual researcher that she was; right now, she looked more like an operative or an undercover agent working in the shadows.

The words that had rolled off of her mouth were initially the words of her boss and creator, Albert Wesker. As much as she wasn’t being ordered to participate in Project Uroboros for her to concentrate on her own missions, Wesker still decided to disclose some research data concerning his new virus. He was aware of her curiosity, and even after a few years had passed since Umbrella had plummeted into bankruptcy, she still had those tendencies. But then again, she had been secured with a stable job even if the company had temporarily closed down. Rin was transferred at the Gruinard facility in order to continue her work. And as for Rin, she was just waiting for her boss to take control of Umbrella, like he had planned all along.

So many things had changed ever since she started working for Wesker. Her normally kind attitude waned from time to time, replaced by the same tendencies her creator had. The girl had learned to kill at an early age which led to her boss’ continuous supervision of her training in order to mold her into his liking. And slowly, even before she noticed, she had developed in the way that he had expected her to develop—just like him. But of course, he couldn’t get rid of her childish demeanor but then again he really didn’t have plans to do so. That attitude made her more interesting, plus the way she was continuously maturing compensated for her childlike ways.

“Maybe I should tip him off that guests are coming.”

She spoke to herself in contemplation while reaching for the cellular phone that she usually placed inside the left inner pocket of her trench coat. Rin continued to watch the monitors again. She remembered one of them vividly. Chris Redfield. She had met him before at Umbrella’s London Research and Training Facility. And at that point in time, she had never really found him appealing. He was to gung-ho, and too brusque for her tastes. He was simply annoying, and this time it seemed he was back in order to thwart her boss’ plans. The other one, she recognized as Sheva Alomar. One of her own agents had supplied her with BSAA operative information, and upon reviewing them saw Sheva’s, thus recognizing the fairly exotic beauty. Still, they were set out to foil Wesker’s plans, she couldn’t have that, and if it was in her power, she’d prevent it…surely. But she had to hold the help for now. She was instructed not to get involved after all, and she didn’t exactly want to “directly” disobey orders coming from Wesker. That would be bad. For now, she had to lay low and continue with her observation.

BEEP
BEEP
BEEP

The vibration from her left inner pocket could be felt, and in an instant she fished out her phone and looked at the caller. She grinned cheerfully before pressing a button in order to receive the call.

“Gates here, yes that’s good, excellent work. Get everything ready. I’ll start working on it upon return.”

The transmission on the other line had ended at the same time she had cut the connection off on her side. It seemed like everything she needed was falling into place. Back at Gruinard, she had asked for an inventory of the viral agents that they currently had in stock and now that the list had been provided for her, she’d be able to continue much of her work. As well, she had been informed that their little operatives planted at Tricell had successfully “borrowed” the sample serum that she needed, the PG67A/W. It was a serum that Wesker had to inject himself with in order to keep the virus that was contributing to his superhuman strength in check. How it differed from the one she was administering to herself though, she had to know. And to do that she had to have samples. Now, she would have asked nicely for one to be given to her, but of course she didn’t want to owe that bitch, Excella Gionne anything. So basically stealing a sample or two would be her only option. And in the course of a few years, she had to admit this wasn’t the first time they had resorted to thievery.

With everything having fallen into place, she leaned back onto her dark tinted recliner chair and relaxed. She prompted her arms on the rest before allowing her hands to meet in order for the fingers to interlock. Rin now watched the monitors again…a building irritation. One of the monitors now flashed a different room and a different scene. This one showed Wesker along with his “partner” Excella. It was time for her boss to receive another dose of the serum to keep the virus inside his body in check. She observed, somehow getting the notion of wanting to get sick as she did.

---

“The preparations are almost complete then we can leave.”

“Good.”

Excella had currently taken out a syringe from her metal suitcase, one that contained the PG67A/W. It was time for Wesker’s regular injections to keep the virus stable. The woman held the syringe and gave it two flicks before allowing the needle to pierce the blond’s arm in order for the serum to be administered. Wesker took in a deep breath as the progenitor-based concoction filled his system, he was glad it would take a while before he had to have her inject him with it again. After the deed was done, Excella placed the syringe away before she began to speak once again.

“You know I was surprised Las Plagas was such a success. When you first arrived, I had my doubts,”

She paused for a second, her eyes still on Wesker as she came to a stand.

“And now, Uroboros is complete.”

“You’re position in Tricell is secured.”

“Oh~ I have my eyes set on something much bigger…”

Again she uttered flirtatiously, taking a step behind her assumed partner, fingers gliding from his right shoulder up to the left one before firmly placing and caressing the area where her fingers had stopped. By this time, the woman was now at his side, and all Wesker had to say was an amused, “oh.”

“You’ll be needing a partner, right?”

She questioned, taking a few steps forward while looking at Wesker, pretty obvious that she was waiting for an answer that would be satisfactory to her ears. But then she continued with her inquiry.

“Someone suitable to join you in your new world…I believe I’ve proven I’m worthy, haven’t I?”

Excella asked, this time bringing her free hand to glide along the man's abdomen and further down, tracing the nicely shaped abs that was hidden under all that dark material. Just then, as she finished her inquisition, Wesker’s hand shot up to catch her chin before looking at her behind those smokey inted glasses albeit reflecting her face all the while as he did.

“Perhaps you have.”

He spoke, releasing her while pushing her off to the side. It wasn’t exactly the answer she was hoping for. And then, as if on cue, a figure that was heavily cloaked in an ash gray coloration came into view, announcing the arrival of the BSAA operatives. A bad turn of events if not well prevented.

“It appears that your old friend, Chris Redfield has come to pay you a visit,”

She paused before taking a step closer to him once again.

“Do I sense concern?”

“The plans are in its final stages. I will not tolerate delays.”

He answered in his usual calm and professional tone. With that said, a very displeased Excella went over to the couch they were sitting on earlier to retrieve her suitcase before marching off to meet their guests along with the clocked figure. Once they were gone, Wesker was once again left to contemplate on some things.

“I believe I should thank you, Spencer.”

---

All the while as Melissa(Rin) watched, she couldn’t help but bite at her gloves in a fit of irritation. Seeing Excella making her advance on her boss was never too appealing. Over the years Rin had been quite particular with the people that Wesker associated himself with. Some of them, she had no problems accepting or getting along with, but as for those outside the “some”, she loathed. Excella being one of those she hated in particular.

“That annoying bitch latching onto him like a leech all the time…ugh, she makes my blood boil.”

Rin muttered with a low growl following her words. Seeing that woman flirting like that with her boss, and with an obvious motive was highly infuriating and agitating. As time passed, Melissa had become rather territorial as well, and even if the thought was crude, she considered Wesker as her own territory. One that she didn’t want invaded. Excella, in all prospects and angles was invading. Melissa was protective of Wesker, and really, that annoying woman in the sultry dress was invading.

“But why Gionne of all people!? It’s obvious she just wants to get in your pants!”

Melissa dared to question, infuriated at the thought of Wesker allying himself with Tricell’s CEO. She had watched them talking before in utter secrecy and she new in an instant that the offending woman had interests in her boss…like most women do. She was feeling defensive whenever she saw them together. Jealousy…? No, she didn’t want to think of it that way. She was just looking out for his best interests as well as his safety. But still, her mind was screaming that she didn’t want any form of indecent and whorish females getting all touchy feely with Wesker.

“Melissa, I have explained it to you countless times. I’m simply using her romantic interests in order to further my plan. Tricell is also trying to get the viral agents that once belonged to Umbrella, Excella would be a useful tool in order for the Uroboros Project to be completed. Have I made myself clear to you, again?”

“Excella?”'

She lofted a brow after hearing him speak, obviously avoiding the latter part of his inquisition. So they were on a first name basis too? She had heard the lecture time and time again, yet she still didn’t want to acknowledge the thought. Wesker did the same before he continuously gazed at the scientist in front of him. Somehow a shark like grin was instantly pasted on his face while he leaned back on his chair located behind the desk.

“It’s a requirement to get her trust…and, do I sense a hint of-“

“No, you’re not Mr. Wesker. You’re not sensing a hint of anything from me. And I understand…I’m leaving…”

Rin then stormed out of his office, now about to return to the labs in order to work. Working in her usual environment usually served to calm her senses. The best thing about being a researcher, she could distract herself with other things.

That little flashback simply made Rin twitch. It was so unusual for her to feel threatened by other people. And Excella hadn’t even done anything to her yet. But she was threatened by her presence. And after what she had viewed on the monitor, the feeling rose. Rin felt competition and her subconscious was telling her that she was jealous indeed, but the girl was continuously ruling it out. She was this simple successful experiment that Wesker continuously took care of and she wanted to keep it that simple. Rin didn’t want any complications, but she was starting to think that sooner or later…everything would become complicated.

Looking off to the side, the redhead gazed at the metallic silver suitcase that lay silent in a desolate corner. Inside it was a sample of the first official Uroboros test subject, Mkono, and one that she had extracted from the now diseased Ricardo Irving when he had been defeated but had already mutated due to the Plaga which he administered to himself. Earlier, after Chris and Sheva had taken care of Mkono and Irving, she went down the facility in order to take the sample she needed. And now with the turn of events, she might actually be gathering a few more samples aside from the battle data everyone was so graciously providing her from the hidden cameras that was strategically placed. A camera that was differently wired so that the feedback wouldn’t go to the main control center, but to the room that she was currently in; Tricell had some facilities long unused which she found to her advantage, it was another control room of course but had been closed down due to outdated technology. Although it seemed that with a few tune ups that she had learned from Wesker, as well as from the other technicians at Gruinard, everything was indeed quite workable. Rin had some of the cameras hooked up in every room. It was very useful for her agendas.

“As much as I’d love to stay out of your plans, when we’re talking of something that will benefit you, I don’t exactly play by your rules, Mr. Albert Wesker.”

She mused softly as she now brought her attention to the monitors again. It seemed that The BSAA was already confronting Excella Gionne and the cloaked figure. Melissa couldn’t help but grin to herself. She just knew that they’d be really surprised soon enough.

“That’s right Chris, Sheva. Show me what the two of you can do.”

There was this ominously dark look on her face as she waited for the next turn of events. Rin Melissa C. Gates, it really appeared that she had changed drastically ever since she decided to put all her trust and faith in the hands of the one man she couldn’t betray.
