I was excited that Radiohead was on the list of artists who played live on the show. However, I wasn't too excited about all the mainstream record company marketing hype and corporate media bull that I had to endure for close to two hours.
Sure, it was great that Robert Plant (Post Led Zeppelin) won two Grammys, maybe even more. Radiohead won the Best Alternative Album… however, Coldplay won more and even had the chance to go up on stage two times to receive them.
Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) gave an introduction to all the "great" performances at the Grammys. On his list of "great music" was the Jonas Brothers. Seriously? The two phrases don't sound correct in the same sentence. Jonas Brothers? Great music? You got to be kidding me. He failed to mention Radiohead as well, which really bothered me.
Anyways, I hate that a great majority of us Americans live and breathe on this music we call "genius". On radio stations and "music television" stations that everyone listens to, I'm pretty sure record label companies pay a whole mess of money to get Kid Rocks or the Coldplays to the mainstream.
I thought Paul McCartney's performance was pretty good. Although, Radiohead's performance was way more authentic and exceedingly better than everything else. They didn't even need Ed, Colin, and Phil either because it was consistently good. Katy Perry's performance about kissing women was just as plastic, fake, and awful as ever.
Please do me a favor and turn off the your z100s, the MTVs, the iTunes, and go to Last.fm or The Sixty One. Find your own music through your own tastes and see what you like. Don't let some massive record label spoon-feed you what they think is good.
