Obsttorte Friday
I had a busy weekend and I'm in the right mood to post something for once! Practice weekend started around Friday night when I picked up Mike. I helped him transport his old Peavee amp into my car, which was so big that it took about 1/2 the space of the backseat section in my car. He also brought his own blanket and pillow because we were supposedly going to sleep over at Ryan's house. However, that didn't happen, haha.
We arrived at Ryan's house after driving for about 20 to 30 minutes on the highway. We practiced songs mostly from the new album and I learned a few songs from classic albums that are years old. This practice was essentially a pre-practice to the actual practice with our drummer, Franco… although I'd like to retract my usage of pre after watching one of George Carlin's videos on the usage of that prefix.
After that somewhat long practice session, we just relaxed and watched television. Ryan put on some Flight of the Conchords on from Comcast's On Demand section. I listen to Flight of the Conchords a lot, but I've never actually seen the show. If you haven't seen it and you do have HBO, I highly advise that you do so. It's a brilliant comedy series and their songs are funny and well written.
When the Flight of the Conchords ended, we played some Puzzle Fighter, which is obviously a great puzzle game. I used to play Toki Toki Boom on Yahoo! Games frequently in high school and it's basically the same game. After that, we played Worms and had a blast. We would always laugh whenever Mike makes mistakes because he would always get nervous whenever his turn was up.
We played a boring and long game of Monopoly afterwards. I came in second place because I had a huge monopoly on the blue regions, but failed to invest in any other colored area. After that, we watched Watchmen: The Complete Motion Comic. I did see Watchmen a few weeks ago and I thought that it was a brilliant movie. The Complete Motion Comic is great for people who don't feel like reading. Even if the characters are voiced by one guy… he did a great job. It was amazing to see Dr. Manhattan's lines being read about his thoughts and perspectives regarding time and events that have passed in his life.
I almost fell asleep during Watchmen, but it was only for a minute or two. So, I stayed up the whole night with everyone else. Eventually, 8:00 AM hit. That was our time to head out to Franco's up in New York state. We had to bring a lot of equipment to get that close to live sound that we crave for (Microphones, practice amps, cables, effects, guitars, etc.). That process took about 10 minutes because it was a lot of walking back and forth from his house to the car.
I'll post more about Saturday tomorrow or another day. I can't waste too much time on my spring break!
