Ah, I'm gonna miss the World Cup. I'm looking into following some worldwide soccer leagues, but there's a lot out there ... kind of confusing, haha. I'll have to rely on my soccer-loving friends for help. :O
The Proposition (2005): I've wanted to see this western for a while, and it did not disappoint. It's pretty brutal, violent and depressing, though, even for a western, which is not really surprising considering it was penned by Nick Cave. (If you're familiar with his music, then nothing in this movie is at all shocking lol.) Probably the most memorable part of the movie is how the harsh Australian landscape is highlighted. Westerns are known for their use of white-hot deserts to symbolize the unforgiving nature of the world, but Australia ... man, that's something else.
Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988): One of the best stupid movies ever. There's no way this could ever be serious, so everything is as ridiculous as possible. I think my favorite thing is the popcorn ammo that somehow transform into vicious clown creatures. Not really sure how that works! My second favorite part of the movie is the soundtrack. It's so, so '80s.
The Informant! (2009): Reception to the comedic nature of this movie seems to be mixed, but I think it works well due to the absurd circumstances of the story. Mark Whitacre (Matt Damon) is acting as a whistleblower against one of the largest price fixing scandals in American history ... but at the same time, he is embezzling more than $9 million from the company he works for (under the noses of the FBI agents he is working with, no less). How insane is that? If the movie had played the events completely straight, it may have been too weird.
