Well, I certainly hope you'll die soon.

So if anyone is interested in joining in, Laura and I are going to watch Dirty Dancing tomorrow night at 9 p.m. our time (so midnight for those on the east coast). I've never seen it; I'm anticipating that it will be weird seeing Ferris Bueller's sister star in a movie.

The Road (2009): A well-made movie, but holy god is it depressing, even for a post-apocalyptic story. Then again, I guess there's no room for sentimentality when the world has gone to hell. I will say, though, that as well made as The Road is, there's something about it that kept me at arm's bay ... I couldn't completely get into it.

Heartcatch Precure! Hana no To de Fashion Show ... Desu ka?! (2010): It's definitely fun to see the Heartcatch crew again, and there are plenty of fun moments in the movie, but I wasn't huge into it overall. I thought the werewolf kid was kind of lame and annoying lol. My boy Keiji Fujiwara as the main villain is pretty cool, though. And I did enjoy seeing everyone in a completely different setting, even though there is some silliness. (Every man, woman and child in Paris totally understands every nuance of Japanese, don't'cha know?)

Broadcast News (1987): I loved this as a portrait of workaholics and the plunging standards of news. Probably the most depressing part of the movie is that certain things that give the more professional journalists pause in this movie are, uh, sort of standard practice today. Sigh. I also like how well-drawn the three main characters are. They're surprisingly complex characters and are sympathetic and not sympathetic at fairly interesting times. My favorite is Albert Brooks' character. He's a prick, but he's a hilarious prick. And the ending is absolutely true to the story and characters, which is pretty rare for anything that emphasizes romance. (There's a love triangle at work here.)

Bulletproof (1988): I wanted to see this movie solely due to this scene (which features a younger Danny Trejo!). Yes, that is Gary Busey as an action hero ... and, yes, he calls the bad guy a "butthorn". What a butthorn is, I'm not exactly sure, but it made me laugh. Unfortunately, the movie as a whole isn't quite that hilarious, except for a bizarre part where Busey is strapped to a giant spool (?!?!). It's mostly your standard '80s action flick that is memorable solely for the absurdity of having Gary Busey of all people as the hero. Seriously, what?!
