I am posting this after getting so annoyed at the crap I read on facebook about people complaining about a local rock station playing things like Fallout Boy, The Lumineers and Mumford and Sons because they claim it's not rock music. I'm sorry, but their slogan is "Everything that rocks". Since when does this not include the mainstream rock you hear on pop stations too? To me, it's really annoying that people think the only rock that counts is hard, loud, fast and heavy. So, out of my annoyance, I posted this:
Music is music. It doesn't matter where it's played, what radio station it's on, et cetera. If you don't like it, switch the station or plug in your ipod or whatever. If you define rock music by how loud / fast it is, then that's fine for you, but rock can have banjos. Just because it's hard, heavy, loud and fast doesn't mean it's necessarily better. Yeah, I like hard, heavy, loud and fast, but I'm glad I like varieties of music because it opens the mind to other possibilities. If you close yourself off to a different style, you might miss out on something great. Do you have to like it all? No. Nobody does. But don't just decide you don't like something because it's not hard, heavy, loud and fast.
