Prologue

So I've finally finished the prologue~ Well, at least, I finally got around to finishing it ^^; Please tell me what you think of it!

The soft, sweet melody rang throughout the dark, damp cave. A young, woman sat there, smiling as the lyrics left her lips. Her long blue hair ran in waves around her, covering her bare body from anyone who would happen to see.
Though there would be no one there to spot her, which had been why she had chosen that area. It was deserted, miles away from a coast, or ship’s travel. No one would be able to find her sanctuary. No one would get hurt; she was free to sing to her heart’s content.
You see, this young woman was no ordinary woman. Sure, she looked the part. Rosy cheeks, full lips, high cheek bones which helped to emphasise the sweetness of her sea green eyes. Her breasts were perfectly rounded, her physique one that would have been envied by all women.
But she was not like all the other women, no. She was a Siren, her whole purpose in life being to send sailor’s to their deaths with her song, to rest forever at the bottom of the sea. But that wasn’t what she wanted. Death did not fascinate her as it did her sisters. It repulsed her, her entire being repulsed her, her entire reason for being birthed into this world.
She loved to sing, her melody soothed her, helped her to deal with the torture she was put through daily by her sisters. The twins, Demoa and Neoere, whose bodies were grotesquely disfigured, matching that of the earliest legends of the Siren. Pasty, pale skin, as well as the long, feathered wings and the clawed, talon feet of a bird. Actually, the young Siren often wondered and didn’t understand why she had been born this way.
A soft thud wrenched her from these thoughts. Her head shooting up to see what had caused the noise. There, a young man stood. He could not have been any older in his early twenties. He was well built, his body easily giving away the fact that he would be a labourer. His shaggy, medium length brown hair tied back to keep from getting into his eyes.
His eyes. They were what caught the siren’s attention. Eyes she could tell should have been a warm, pleasant brown, were glazed over in an almost milky colour. A sign that he was in a trance. Of course he would be, obviously having heard her song. But instead of snapping out of his trance when her voice ceased, as if he would have if it had been her sisters singing. He took a step toward the ocean that roared angrily behind him.
That had always been one of the woman’s most hated things about her curse. Unlike her sisters, whose song merely put men to sleep as long as their voices continued. Her song put them in a trance, both men and women alike, one that couldn’t be broken no matter what she tried.
“No!” the scream was ripped from her throat, as if her soul was shattering, breaking the silence between them. Though this did nothing to stall the man in his quest. She quickly threw herself from her seat, putting herself between the man and the ocean that at times soothed her, but now was only a ravenous monster calling its prey to be devoured.
With all the strength she had in her small, delicate body she pushed against him, trying to change his course so that he would be walking back into the cave, away from the danger that pursued him. There was no stopping him though. He had a destination, and he was determined to get there. Even if he hadn’t been almost twice her size, she was sure she wouldn’t have had any better luck. The trance giving him almost super human strength.
That didn’t stop her from trying her hardest though. She wasn’t going to let anyone else die because of her. “Stop!” she cried out in a broken voice, falling to her knees beside him, her hands covering her face so she wouldn’t have to see what came next.
She’s seen it so many times before, the horrible sight of them walking gingerly into the water, as if they only wanted to cool their feet. Then slowly, they’d walk deeper and deeper, until the water was up to their waist, then neck, finally covering them completely so all you could see was a dark shadow in the water where they floated, slowly sinking. That was when the trance broke in their mind only. They still had no control over their body, but they could feel as the water flooded their lungs, choking them. They could feel as their life began ebbing away from them, like an animal you were chasing but just couldn’t catch. And then, they would feel nothing, and sink to the bottom of the sea.
And as all of this was happening, the young siren just sat there, whimpering to herself. What else could she do? With all of the power she possessed, she couldn’t break her own curse. No matter how much she wished it. And as the man she doomed struggled for a final time, before closing his eyes forever, tears began to roll down her cheeks, staining them.
Oh how she wished she could take her own life. But every attempt she had made had just ended in the disaster of someone other than herself. Why had she been born with such a cruel fate, not even allowed to atone for all the pain she had caused, not only for her victims, but for the families that would never see their loved ones again. What had she done wrong? Had she wronged a god in her past life? Was this her punishment for a sin she had committed? She just couldn’t understand what she had done to deserve this. What she would give to have been born as a normal human child.
And at that moment the blunette vowed to never open her lips and sing her accursed song ever again.
