Fandom insiders: Japanese nicknames for the 麺

heresybitch:

dainashi:

Sometimes it may be fun to throw a glance at the Japanese fandom as well! So let’s see how Gazette’s members are called by their Japanese fans! I’ve seen these names especially on message boards and also on blogs.

Ruki
ルキ → Usual way of writing Ruki
流鬼 → Ruki as written in lyrics booklets
おるき → o-Ruki: I can only guess, but it looks like the honorific “o” at the beginning of words to express respect
ゴキ → Goki: Means cockroach! Their song Cockroach is also called goki by Japanese fans

Uruha
麗 → Usual way of writing Uruha
うっさん → Ussan: U-san? Or wordplay for ossan? Hehe, ossan means “old man”, actually a rude term! But I think it’s more like U-san because …
う様 → U-sama: He’s also called U-sama! (≧ω≦)
家鴨 → Ahiru: Means duck. Familiar, right? Many fans all over the world call him duck

Aoi
葵 → Usual way of writing Aoi
馬 → Uma: Still a mystery to me, but fans very often call him “horse”! I don’t know why though
棗 → Natsume: I’ve heard that for the first time today and can’t really make something out of that laugh. Apparently, natsume means this

Reita
れいた → Usual way of writing Reita
れいちゃん → Rei-chan
鼻布 → Hananume: Nose cloth. Self explanatory.
ヒヨコ → Hiyoko: Young bird, chick. Self explanatory.

Kai
戒 → Usual way of writing Kai
戒きゅん → Kai-kyun: Just Kai-kun, written in a “cutesy” way.
ゴリラ → Gorira: Gorilla. Eh, kinda mean right? But used very often! I still don’t really know why he’s called like that!

By the way: ガゼ麺 means Gaze men which means Gazette members ^_~ (麺 is a common abbreviation for “member” in the Visual kei scene)

I somehow thought this would end up here, so uh, let me make some adjustments:
- It’s much more “U-san” not “Ossan”. Someone told me Sakai started calling him that.
- Aoi could be called uma because it’s his Chinese sign. Some also said it could be because fans think he looks like a horse, but I prefer the Chinese sign thing, it’s not so mean
- Natsume was Aoi’s name before Gazette
- Kai apparently said in an interview he would compare himself to a Gorilla so that might be a reason for this name
