Welcome to my world.

I'm SomeGuy, 29 years old, residing in Vancouver, BC, Canada. I've studied English Literature, Chinese Martial Arts, and am currently pursuing careers in writing - possibly even in the anime industry itself.

And I work for this site.

And you should be watching Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad.
Or watching Ranma 1/2.
Or learning about the Shinsengumi.
Or planning to visit Vancouver, The Best Place On Earth (actual marketing motto).

Here at the "Smallville" page, I have my personal blog where I'll post about anything and everything. If ya need me or otherwise need to know anything from/about me, here's where I'll be.

If you're really looking for my more professional, site-type stuff, you wanna head over my "Metropolis" world.

Super Fast Catch Up

Thanksgiving dinner back at the ancestral home on Sunday. Mom's birthday dinner and then exciting Kevin Ryan episode of Castle on Monday. Caught a cold somewhere in between. Supervisor went on vacation, left department in my hands. Played a bunch of Battlefield 3 beta. Completely caught up in Fairy Tail on all fronts. Watched a bunch of Japanese movies with my buddy who has a film course. Watched a couple hockey games with people. Made butter chicken with instant paste. Drank a ton of lemon and honey, sometimes with tea until I ran out on account that I've been sick. Friend lent me her Cold-FX and I now retell the story like she's a tsundere. Godson turned two and he crayoned on my shirt; I got him "Green Eggs And Ham" and a box of triangular-shaped crayons (for purposes of motor skill training).

Next weekend we have Bloodshots. And tomorrow Batman: Arkham City comes out. I'mma be busy the next while.

So yeah.

Because I was soooo tagged . . .

Well, she didn't post the rules, but everyone else seems to have:

1. You must post these rules.
2. Each person must post 11 things about themselves in their journal.
3. Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post, and create eleven new questions for the people you tag to answer.
4. You have to choose 11 people to tag and post their icons on your journal.
5. Go to their page and tell them you have tagged him/her.
6. No tag backs.
7. No stuff in the tagging section about "you are tagged if you are reading this." You legitimately (AKA, really, truly, with all honesty) have to tag 11 people.

And then she tagged me. Jerk.

1. What is your favorite anime of all time?
Of all time? I would have to say Ranma 1/2. Evangelion may have been my first serious anime that I considered my "favourite" and Beck may be my all-purpose answer, but if we're talking years down the road, I'll probably say Ranma. It's timeless like that.

2. If you could learn any language, what would it be?
Mandarin. Would be extremely useful to me in all aspects of my life here. Would make lots of things a lot simpler . . . like, so, so many things.

3. How did you find theOtaku.com? And why did you join?
Knew it back when it was an all-purpose info dump on a few shows I watched. Then they said there would be account stuff later and to snatch up usernames fast. So I did. Month later, I actually started using it.

4. What was your favorite childhood cartoon?
X-Men. If we went further back it'd be Transformers or Ghostbusters, but we TAPED X-Men every week. I remember one season finale, we taped it as it played. Then we rewound the tape and watched it again. X-Men was awesome.

5. What is your favorite quote? Why?
If I had to pick one with a name attached, it'd be "Faber est suae quisque fortunae" by Appius Claudius Caecus ("Every man is the maker of his own fortune.") My brothers had that inscribed on a pocket watch and it was a graduation gift from them. I think it kinda suits me.

6. What gives you the creeps?
If we're talking legit heebie-jeebie creeps . . . child ghosts, or anything related thereof. At least with adult ghosts you can usually predict a couple common courses of action. But with children, sometimes they can do the most random things - then you make them dead, and then frickin' anything can happen.

7. What would your dream job be?
Paid writer. Books, articles, maybe end up getting a Discovery Channel tv show where I travel the continent and show off conventions or something . . . hah, there's a thought . . . but none of you are surprised by this one.

8. (Fill in the blank) Oh, Edward Cullen how I ______ you.
Apathise. It's totally a real word, I swear. Not really.

9. Which is worse, failing or never trying?
Never trying is definitely worse. Though you wouldn't know that from my track record.

10. What’s something you know you do differently than most people?
I ambidextrously use chopsticks on the basis of what would be funnier at that exact moment.

11. Do you push the elevator button more than once?
Generally no. I know that's not how they work. Same is true for crosswalk signals.

Alright, eleven people to tag . . . perhaps people who haven't been popped just yet by any of this . . .

  • Ace - I see nothing from this man thus far.
  • amenonine - Terri, you're on!
  • bellpickle - girl hasn't been tagged yet, I don't think.
  • Desbreko - boy hasn't been targeted to my knowledge . . .
  • enin - Joshface, you play too!
  • jomz - Because living on the other side of the world is no excuse!
  • Katana - I'm sure she's been tagged, but I see nothing yet!
  • Miss Anonymous - your screen name doesn't get red underlines. Lucky.
  • red:leaf - also someone who probably hasn't been tagged yet, bwahaha.
  • Sangome - let's see if this makes a girl post or not . . .
  • Shinmaru - He's answering tags, but has not been targeted specifically yet.

Expect some PMs or something. I'll try to keep 'em as un-spammy as I can so as to not seem like a total douchebag. Anyway, let's see . . . questions . . .

1. Are you a black leather kind of person or a brown leather kind of person?
2. What was the first thing you ever cooked on a stove-top by yourself?
3. If there was one physical bodily thing you wouldn't mind changing, what would it be?
4. What was the last time you ever had to explain a weird/niche fandom to someone about?
5. What is the best aspect/trait/feature of bacon?
6. If you had to get into a fistfight, what would your favourite / most confident attack be?
7. Have you ever been caught singing something embarrassing in public before you realized you were doing it?
8. What is the worst pick-up line you have ever told or have ever been told?
9. What is your favourite fancy essay-type word?
10. If you were despot of a small, completely indoctrinated nation, what would the national chant be?
11. If you could go back in time and change one thing in your life, keeping in line with what's important to you right now, these days, what's on your mind, what would it be?

So yeah. Good luck with that. Meantimes, I'm gonna go let my brain melt about the last Fairy Tail chapter that came out . . .

EDIT: Oh shit, Red tagged me too!

1. What's your favorite superhero TEAM and why?
X-Men. They were my first serious superhero fandom, span so many interesting characters and I suppose they had a bit of the "fight for the minority" stuff that I could always get behind.

2. What's an album or song you listen to to relax after a particularly hard day?
I get a lot of play out of the Tangled soundtrack in my car. Not quite the same as what you mean, but who can't smile when you sing along with Disney?

3. Who's your favorite buddy-cop pair?
Tango and Cash. They define so much about the whole genre for me. But you already knew that.

4. Where's your favorite place to get breakfast?
Denny's. 100% Denny's.

5. What's your favorite kind of ethnic take-out?
Italian I suppose, being that I very rarely take out anything other than pizza these days.

6. If you were a broadcast network's programming line-up, which would you be and why? (i.e. NBC because of stupid reality shows, CBS because of crime dramas, etc.)
CBC because I'd be simple and local. Gross. But true.

7. Chinese horoscope or Western horoscope?
Both, but mostly depending on which is more beneficial at any given time. I suppose I lean more towards being a Leo than being a pig, though. Can't blame me, hey?

8. What cartoon do you watch as a "guilty pleasure"?
Star Wars: The Clone Wars. It's a bit of a guilty pleasure, being prequel Star Wars and all. But it's Star Wars, so what can ya do?

9. What Hogwarts house would you be in?
Most likely Gryffindor. I'm far too idealistic to be anything else.

10. If you could play ANY sport professionally, what would it be?
Electronic sports! But that's cheating, so we'll say combat sports; it's what I understand better than anything else these days.

11.What's your favorite fantasy or Sci-Fi series (to read or watch)and why?
Gotta go with Star Wars. That shit's a part of my entire growing up and whatnot. I know for a fact my life would be super different if I didn't have that part of my life. Funny, that . . .

Yay Red!

Fun Story From Fifteen Years Ago . . .

So last Saturday night my old elementary school, F.W. Howay Elementary, celebrated its 50th anniversary and invited everyone old and new to come back and visit. I finished grade 7 there back in '96, but in a lot of ways I was still young blood co...

Oh yeah, watched the 2nd Fairy Tail OVA . . .

Imagine taking a shounen action-adventure story that's already run 90+ episodes, and then you turned most of that story, its characters and its arcs into a high school dramedy.

Yeah, that was the 2nd OVA.

And then about halfway through Erza got herself buck nekkid again.

Yeah, those OVAs were crack . . . fun times. Anyway, interesting blog after work tonight. Probably.
