Welcome to my world.

I'm SomeGuy, 29 years old, residing in Vancouver, BC, Canada. I've studied English Literature, Chinese Martial Arts, and am currently pursuing careers in writing - possibly even in the anime industry itself.

And I work for this site.

And you should be watching Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad.
Or watching Ranma 1/2.
Or learning about the Shinsengumi.
Or planning to visit Vancouver, The Best Place On Earth (actual marketing motto).

Here at the "Smallville" page, I have my personal blog where I'll post about anything and everything. If ya need me or otherwise need to know anything from/about me, here's where I'll be.

If you're really looking for my more professional, site-type stuff, you wanna head over my "Metropolis" world.

Chinese Proverb Win!

Talked to my dad a bit on the phone after I was off work to plan to meet for some yum cha on Thursday with my grandma and possibly my uncle or something.

Anyway, as I got to the car, he mentioned this saying to me that really fits my situation right now:

"Keh Ngau Wun Ma"

Basically, "ride an ox while you search for a horse". But don't quote me on my romanization of that. It's surely wrong.

In any case, I was amused. My dad seemed glad that I was amused. Good times.

Alright, I'm pissed . . .

FOX, you guys are dicks.

They're premiering Joss Whedon's "Dollhouse" on Friday night. They're also moving "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" from Monday nights to Friday night as a back-to-back thing with Dollhouse.

The Friday Night Death Slot.

On FOX.

The night that good TV shows get sent to die.

FOX, you suck. You suck dicks.

Learn Something New Every Day...

So I only just learned today that a "Desbreko" is a skeletal fish monster from Majora's Mask. Suddenly the world just makes that much more sense.

Go fig.

Also, I need to go to another lion dance right now. Could be the last one for the new year (blasted holiday goes on for like, two weeks!), so we'll see.

Finally . . . here's a shot my dad took of my brother's award ceremony. I'll let you guys try to guess which one he is - only hint is that Justin tends to sport a bit of a shit-eating grin at times when things are supposed to be serious.

I suppose, also, he'll be the Chinese one. Probably. He looks kinda fat in the picture too. That's a shame. Anyway, the full unit citation went to 13 people, but their heads were too shrunken in that picture so I went with the zoom. It's all good.

Details, Man! Details!

So I was able to get back in touch with some various people at kung fu for the past couple weeks, including a bunch of guys I hadn't seen in a while. In particular, I got some updates about another one of us who's in the hospital right now.

Here's the gist of what happened:

Last month, said guy was out partying. He was drunk. At some point during or after, he was on the third floor of a parkade; he slipped and fell over the railing of said parkade, fell three floors to the ground. Suffered some spinal and brain injury in the process. Still, I'm told he looks pretty good all things considering (save for losing a lot of weight), and that he's moving his arms and legs and such. His speech is still a little slow and he repeats himself, though, but he's confident he'll be discharged sooner than later and that he'll be transferred to a rehabilitation clinic closer to home soon. In any case, even though that's his full story, the police are still looking into it for any possible foul play that would have led to the accident.

So in all, he's doing alright all things considering, and his parents visit him every day. So I wish him a speedy recovery - and we're definitely missing him now, while we do all these lion dances without his assistance.

So that's the info I've come to since Monday. Not bad.

This is the info I was going by going into Monday . . .

He was pushed off a five story floor, and the police are treating it as a criminal case. He has noticeable spinal damage and brain damage. But he's doing okay, he's just really bored in the hospital. Other than that, everything else is about the same.

Guy who was calling everyone to fill us in on what happened seriously had the story messed up and no doubt caused a lot of grief for a lot of people. This wouldn't have been the first time this particular guy has messed things up with his words (and I'm fairly confident that a couple guys actually don't come out to the club or to performances anymore because of some crap he once said on Facebook).

After he called me to tell me how the friend was pushed out of a building, I called my brother to see if he wanted to look into the case at all. Last Tuesday I mentioned it to my brother again, he confirmed that it was indeed slipping off a third floor.

So we're all a little more relieved about said friend's situation. Oh, and said friend has decided that his partying years are done now, being that he's 30 now (or almost 30) and that partying led to his fall. That'll probably work out for him, I think.

And other friend is a retard. Again.

Yeah.

So that aside . . . weather's still cold as balls, next big lion dance is Saturday . . . and at the expense of sounding foppish, my butt has been sore since Monday. Too much being the lion tail, bent over for too long - think of it as an extended squat where you have to walk. Sucks.

Ah well, it's only once a year . . .
