It's fun to get new responsibilities.
So for the past couple days I've been getting better acquainted with Fan Words and how they work. This is important, as I'm the other person in charge of approving nominees to become public Fan Words or leaving them private and as-is. Gotta say, I'm still getting the ropes.
I'll definitely do my best to learn how to discern the quality things for Fan Words than not . . .
. . . which makes me feel a little sad 'cause I rejected Animepulse's Fan Word nominations - they're good people and I don't doubt their content, but they're not really Fan Words exactly. Sorry guys. But hey, you're partners now, so it's even better!
I will say the one thing that always kinda weirds me out a little is when there's like, 3 submissions in a row from someone. Obviously at this early point in the new site's life a lot of people have old works they're submitting for Fan Word consideration and that's cool. Heh, still, you gotta wonder if people are watching that and are just going "hey, why is so-and-so getting so many published things right now?" Benefits of not having a 1 submission/day cap like the other stuff, I suppose? Whatever, we'll figure it out later.
One thing's for sure, though. Having that little check-box for instant "take this into consideration" is totally being overused. I honestly believe there are many people who still don't really understand what "nominate for publication" entails, going by the number of random "regular" blogs are coming through that thing. Ah . . . here's hoping people learn sooner than later.
So let's see, what else . . .
I finally got "Metropolis" more or less up and running. I think it'll be kinda fun, that world, 'cause I'm getting more and more ideas for what to do with it. 'Cause the thing is, most features and such I post for theO'll come through the Official World with all the news updates and stuff, so I shouldn't bank on having too many essays and review thingies coming out through here.
I do think I can do a lot with it regardless. As we know, I've got a fancy piece of paper from some expensive school that proves I know stuff. I can see "Metropolis" as being not just where writing gets done, but where others can come to work on writing. It'll still be technically site-related in terms of producing content; it could serve as a platform from where collaborative work can be done, or for any guides that don't necessarily have to be "theOtaku.com Official Policy" or something.
What I'm most excited about, though, is the potential for "Metropolis" to be a kind of writing workshop. I've already helped a lot of friends online with papers, letters, or what have you - why not use a blog/world to go even further? Who knows, it could be fun.
Which reminds me, I should really add a "if you have any questions, or have subjects you want to discuss" bit over on that one . . . hmm . . .
Yeah, I'll do it later. Maybe after I get a banner made for over there . . . or at least until after Death Note (which starts in . . . about half an hour!).
Oh, one more thing . . .
Mimmi sent me a giant book about weapons. It's freakin' sweet. Even my stepdad likes it. You're freakin' awesome, Mimmi! Tak!
