Long Saturday Is Long . . .

I need to take a shower or wipe myself down or something . . . very hot day today!

Alexanity, Day Three:

*bang bang!!* "Hey kid, you awake?"
"Grrmmm... I am now..."

So that's how Saturday started, followed by frantic packing and readying for the day. This also included catching some real-time PMs from Shadow in Toronto (which we replied to, wondering if she got them or not at that same moment).

Anyway, I was in my kung fu clothes, she was in regular clothes . . . headed to the club, met up with a couple of the other kids coming to the performance as well as sifu. Haha . . . pretty much the mindset must've been, "huh? Who's this white girl? Huh..." But everyone got along, so yay!

Anyway, since sifu's van was full with stuff, I took the kids and one lion head in my car down to Richmond for dim sum (or "yum cha", if you know the lingo). It was a pretty good brunch since there were ten of us in total with a good mix of old faces and new faces. I also got to play the interpreter for Alexa as the Canto' started flying around - it mostly worked. And then she wowed us all by identifying the siu mai in as many words. We also failed in that none of us - sifu included - knew the full story behind choi chang (the lettuce eating thing). Ah well . . .

And then we made her eat two pineapple-barbecue pork buns. That's all we've really done all week, just make her eat . . . bwahaha. But yeah, really good times, I thought. Here's hoping the thought is mutual.

After that, we all set up at the actual performance area, where all the Kin Fung people went through the briefing of what we were doing. And wouldn't you know it, Alexa lucked out in that she wasn't the only "civilian" dragged to the performance! One of the lion dance guys brought his girlfriend as well, so the two of them talked a lot while we were off doing our stuff . . .

. . . these talks led to networking, which led to said-person's girlfriend more or less being able to hook Alexa up with a secretary job for when she moves here. Seriously, what the heck?! That's awesome, though. Other than that, the non-club girls got to check out the inside of a lion head, play with the eye-blinking ropes and stuff . . . more than what most people get to see, y'know? So yay for inside scoops all around!

Performance was long, but meh. Went well enough.

After the performance, we again hauled ass (myself, Alexa, and the two kids) back up to the club and then out to meet Alexa's Edmonton buddies at the skytrain station (it was about 3pm by this point). Well, since we already had to haul ass up to North (and then West) Vancouver for the ferry terminal, we all went to Lynn Valley in North Van. to hang out. Lynn Valley's a quiet little wooded area with a suspension bridge, hiking trails, and - of course - a valley with a river.

So yeah, the four of us first got ice cream, then headed down to the river where we played around, drank the river water, threw rocks at each other and the young one possibly upset a large woman by muttering "I hate fat people" possibly a little too loud. Hah.

In any case, no one fell into the water, so it's all good. When the one friend looked like she was going to slip off her big rock and fall into the water, though I rushed through the water splashing the back of my jeans pretty bad . . . damn hero-complex instant reactions . . . . . hurrr . . .

We got little Alexa to the ferry after that and then grabbed some Subway before coming back home. Alexa went on to text us saying that she was good to go on the ferry. Excellent.

Oh yeah, and then one of the Edmonton friends gave me gas money for being so nice as to drive them all around so much. Haha, as if I didn't like them enough already, eh? Yeah, they're some good people.

So yeah. I get a couple days' reprieve from the Evil one now. I guess I'll sleep in today . . .

. . . . . and then tomorrow I can start planning for Shadow's arrival to Vancouver! Ohhh man . . . the insanity . . .
