Becky's Writers' Response, Number 6

(My response for this week's writing prompt.)

Yeah, what the heck . . . let's learn about that idiot cop character of mine, even though that's technically tricky given that I quite intentionally left much of his description blank and vague at best.

Monologue:

I am not gonna explain this one again! Every time you come into this office asking for help, you bring it up. Why? Why?!

Alright, fine, one more time... so pay attention, 'cause I swear I'm definitely not gonna do it again. And I'm serious this time.

I know the saying is that "opposites attract" and that that's supposedly why Noug' and I are now sharing an office instead of punching each other in the fact - well, not as often now, anyway, but that's besides the point. Yeah, he's strong, built like a tank, vulgar and has a gas problem. I on the other hand am light on my feet, can almost still do the splits if I'm wearing the right pants - and no, I'm not wearing the right pants right now - and tend to be more snarky than outright vulgar, I'm younger and handsomer than he is... you know, that kind of stuff.

Problem is, that's all incredibly topical. I might be the young and energetic one while he's the ugly one, but that's really about it. Past that we're both damn good cops, we love our work tremendously, and, I suppose, we're both kinda assholes. Granted, Noug' is the bigger asshole, but you know what I mean.

But I still gotta say, life is pretty awesome. And again, I just need to reaffirm that everything I'm about to say is gonna sound extremely... iffy, we'll say. So understand that yes, I know how this paints us and it sucks, but I will chop you in the throat if you try to take this out of context. Cool? Cool.

So that said... yeah, life's great now that we're partnered up. We're not pissing each other off anymore - which in turn isn't pissing off anyone else who had to listen to it around the precinct all the time - and we're getting a lot more done. We even have confidants for things that are seriously bugging us. That one's actually really new to me. After I made detective life was suddenly very lonely... wasn't horrible, I mean 'Mel was always around too... but y'know how it is, there's just some things you don't say to people like her.

And yet guns are totally free when it comes to that old bastard, I know, it's weird. But he's good to have around to discuss stuff, toss ideas around, that kind of thing. Oh! He also drives which is awesome, because gas prices suck right now and if he's gonna drive around that's absolutely fine by me!

So enough about my heterosexual life partner... you actually wanted to talk to me about something important or something?
