News: Sentai Filmworks Rescues Gatchaman

When it was revealed that Imagi's plans to do a CGI animated Gatchaman movie were abandoned two years ago, thinking about the problem itself while noticing that all North American commercial distribution licenses to the Gatchaman anime expired before the start of Imagi's planning began made me worried that futre generations of North America-based anime will never have a chance to officially be introduced to the anime superhero legend, especially when it was the original 1972 Gatchaman T.V. series that began the sentai trope in anime. But then fortunately during the weeekend, ANN revealed that U.S.-based anime distributor Sentai Filmworks had gotten the license to commercially distribute both the 1972 Gatchaman T.V. series and the 1994 Gatchaman OVA minseries on DVD and blu-ray. The North American re-releases are to happen in October 2013.

Now, North American audiences who haven't yet been introduced to Gatchaman can finally experience the landmark superhero anime classics, that is if they're willing to give anime classics a fighting chance of course.

Anime Online Viewing Status of 5/20/2013

Today, I finished watching on streaming video, Space Pirate Captain Herlock: Endless Odysssey, and what an amazing work I found it to be, though I was disgusted by the last episode's ending. At least Captain Harlock's creator Leiji Matsumoto was not part of the team that made the anime itself, and it's not part of Harlock canon either.

In the meantime, I await to see if more episodes of the edited-for-DVD cut of Space Battleship Yamato 2199 will arrive on streaming video websites so I can finish watching the whole store as I am at episode 14 of the cut itself.

News: Tennant and Piper Returning to Doctor Who for a Guest Appearance

Last night, while I was watching the entertainment news show Innerspace on SPACE: The Imagination Station, I had found out that David Tennant and Billie Piper will make guest appearances in a future episode of 2005's Doctor Who T.V. series intentded for celebration of Doctor Who's 50th anniversary. However, the report did not say if Tennant will actually be playing the Doctor's previous incarnation or the clone accidentally created in the episode where Donna Noble was forced to permantly depart from the TARDIS due to dangerous circumstances. As for Billie Piper, if showrunner Steve Moffat intended the episode of Amy Pond's debut to feature a reboot of the Whoniverse's timeline, it's uncertain at the moment if she will indeed reprise the role of Rose or play a different character. Nevertheless, I look forward to the episode, and happy 50 years to Doctor Who too, although the Doctor Who's 50th anniversary's not until November 23.
