"Gurren Lagann", a Sci-Fi drama-comedy show, may not be one of the Anime next in line to get a U.S. film re-interpretation, but for the fun of it, I thought of giving my opinion of which actor/actress would be best to look and fit the part per character role if "Gurren Lagann" was to be given a North American Live-action film treatment (whether need for color wig/tupee or not). Plus of course, the Anime itself doesn't use any country/city names from real life, so for most characters, it shouldn't be a big deal about the nationality of actor/actress who should play each. Anyway, here's the list("Gurren Lagann" character name at left,actor/actress name right):
- Simon: Frank Dolce (from "Sons of Tuscon")
- Yoko: Zhang Ziyi (from "Rush Hour 2")
- Kamina: either George Clooney (from 1997's "Batman & Robin") or Charlie Sheen (from "Two and The Half Men")
- Leeron: Adam Sandler (from "Grown Ups")
- Dayakka: Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson (from "The Tooth Fairy")
- Kittan: Jim Carrey (from "The Mask")
- Kiyal: either Sarah Silverman (from "The Sarah Silverman Program") or Miranda Taylor Cosgrove (from "iCarly")
- Kiyoh: either Katee Sackoff (from the 2000s "Battlestar Galactica") or Sarah Jessica Parker (from "Sex and The City")
- Kinon: Mandy Moore (from "A Walk To Remember")
- Gabal: Hugh Laurie (from "House")
- Zoushi: George Lopez (from 2010's "Marmaduke")
- Ailak: Rain (from "Ninja Assassin")
- Kid: Daniel Tosh (from "Tosh.0")
- Tetsukan: Tobey Maguire (from 2002's "Spider-Man")
- Attenbourough: David Spade (from "8 Simple Rules")
- Makken: Pat Thorton (from "Hotbox")
- Reite: Jeri Ryan (from "Star Trek: Voyager")
- Viral: Leornado DiCaprio (from 1997's "Titanic")
- Lordgenome: Terry Crews (from "Everbody Hates Chris")
- Nia Teppelin: Chloë Grace Moretz (from "Kick-Ass")
- Adiane: Sandra Bullock (from "The Blind Side")
That's all I can think of (it's hard to think of what would be best actor/actress options for Rossiu, Gimy, and Darry at the moment). Please don't hate me for wanting to do this; it's only a "what if?" type of feature I wanted to do, even while inspired by magazine Wizard's "casting call" series of segments. Anyway, feel free to comment on what you think, but please no North American media bashing here (do it somehwere else), and like if you wish to give a negative response to any role I listed, don't base your negative opinion on the controveresies and/or disatsers any Anime-based U.S. film suffered in the past, especially when "Gurren Lagann" has nothing to do with any other Anime/Manga franchise.
