News: SyFy Pulls The Plug On Caprica

Today, I have some sad news to report to all you "Battlestar Galactica" fans out there after visiting spacecast.com and TrekMovie.com.

First the bad news. Mark Stern, Executive Vice President of Original Programming for U.S. network SyFy, had announced last night that the SyFy network executives will be pulling the plug on the "Battlestar Galactica" T.V. series "Caprica" (prequel to the 2003 "BSG" T.V. miniseries) after its next five episodes, though SyFy won't be airing them until the first quarter of 2011. Stern explained the planned cancellation is because even though he and the execs are still proud of the staff and cast that worked on the show for their hard work, the U.S. nielsen ratings aren't high enough for the network to give the show the go-ahead for another season. It looks like the exploration of the origin and evolution of the Cylon race in the re-imagined BSG continuity has been cut short. However, Canadian T.V. network SPACE: The Imagination Station plans to air the next 5 episodes of "Caprica" during the next several weeks.

As for good news, the decision to cancell "Caprica" will not affect plans to make the T.V. film "Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome" as according to Stern, it has already been green-lit with SyFy and Universal Studios still committed to working on it. If you haven't read my previous "Battlestar Galactica" post on this WORLD, this film will be set in the continuity of the 2000s BSG series, but focusing on William Adama during the first Cylon War. However, Ronald D. "Ron" Moore (co-creator of the 2000s BSG) will not be involved in the project, but the movie will bring more action into the "Battlestar Galactica" franchise.
