After a script re-write done by Steve Kloves for the upcoming U.S. live-action "Akira" film, Warner Bros. is now in the stage of holding auditions for two character roles: Kaneda and Tetsuo with plans to start filming the movie in August. Here are the reported lists of actors auditioning:
For the role of Kaneda
- Garrett Hedlund (played Sam Flyne for "Tron: Legacy")
- Michael Fassbender (played Archie Hicox for "Inglorious Basterds")
- Chris Pine (played James T. Kirk for 2009's "Star Trek")
- Justin Timberlake (played Sean Parker for "The Social Network")
- Joaquin Phoenix (played Commodos for 2000's "Gladiator")
For the role of Tetsuo
- Robert Pattinson (played Cedric Diggory for "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire")
- Andrew Garfield (who will be playing Peter Parker/Spider-Man for 2012's "The Amazing Spider-Man")
- James McAvoy (voiced Gnomeo for "Gnomeo and Juliet")

While I suggest we audiences hold our judgements on the U.S. "Akira" movie until after seeing it from start to finish (meaning don't try to jump to conclusions on how the movie will turn out in the end), I am open to hearing your comments on which actor you find can fit the part per character role. However, I was not expecting Chris Pine would end up auditioning for a role in the movie, given that he already agreed to star in two more "Star Trek" films after 2009's "Star Trek", and filming for the 12th Trek film is start sometime in the summer as well.
