News: WB Finds a Frontrunner For U.S. Akira's lead

So far, Warner Bros. has confirmed that filming of the U.S. live-action "Akira" will start somewhere between late February and early March next year. It's been several months since Warner Bros. conducted its list of potential actors for the lead roles in the U.S. "Akira", and according to Variety, the studio itself and Jaume Collett-Serra of "Unknown" fame, who now hold's the director chair for this project, have finally found a frontrunner for one of the movie's two male leads: Garrett Hedlund of "Tron: legacy" fame. However, Variety did not specify which male role Hedlund is frontrunner for, but indicates that Warner Bros. can't make any offers to the actor until the start of filming of this upcoming manga-based action-adventure.

Hedlund did pull it off with his motorbike moves while acting in the lead role in "Tron: Legacy" and "Akira" does indeed involve motorbike riders in the main action. In my view, Warner may be getting closer to finding who can both look and act the part of the caucasian-looking gang leader in its "Akira" reimagining.
