This is going to be somewhat of a ranting post. You were warned.
So, I've had more than one friend vent to me about them being single and how they want a boyfriend/girlfriend. They don't want to be alone, they want to meet the one they'll eventually marry, yadda yadda yadda.
Giving advice only does so much. It's harder when I'm talking to someone over the internet, because I can't actually do much to help. But, I do my best. If this is you: go out and experience life. You see someone you like at the store? Go up and talk with them. I'm not saying go and fling yourself on them, but what harm does a nice talk do?
What really bothers me are the people that only have ever had, like, one boyfriend/girlfriend and were burned. They sit there and say so-and-so scarred me, and now I have trust issues and can never love again. Know what I have to say to that?
Bullshit.
The very first person you meet is not going to be your life partner. (I do realize there are exceptions. I'm speaking generally.) I guarantee a lot of your parents had dated other people before they met their significant other. You just have to buck up and get back out there.
Dwelling on the past and what happened is not going to get you anywhere. In fact, it's only going to further piss off all of your friends when that is all you will talk about. And then, you wonder why no one wants to go out with you? If you are unsure of what you want? How are they supposed to figure it out for you?
Everyone gets burned a few times in life. Life isn't supposed to be easy. If it was, where is the fun in that? How would anyone grow or mature? You learn from your mistakes and build off of it. It's just how it works. No amount of moping around is going to fix that.
And those dating tips in magazine? Bogus. How many people actually use any of those pick-up lines and have them actually work? Then again, the ones that use them are probably drunk and looking for an easy lay.
You have to create experiences of your own. It's so much more meaningful and special that way. Quit analyzing every moment. Just go for it.
