Alright, here we go. It's a pretty long list, so bear with me. I'll try to make it as basic as possible. So, starting with everyone's favorites:
Vampires:
Vampires are split into two groups, Pureblood and Servants. Purebloods have been alive since the beginning of time. Rumor has it that Purebloods can also have children, but it has never been proven. These vampires are ageless, and do not die very easily. They are very strong physically, but not as much as the Servants. Unlike the Servants, they are much more powerfull Magically. They can go out in the sun, and can go without blood for weeks on end. The distinguishing factor between Purebloods and Servants is that when a Pureblood bites a mortal, they become the Pureblood's Servant.
Servant vampires are literally the servants of the Purebloods. They must obey their Pureblood master. When they bite a mortal, and the mortal changes, they do not become the servant of the Servant, but the servant of the Pureblood that bit the original Servant. Servant Vampires are stronger physically, and can also go out in the sunlight, but will begin to crave blood more and more the longer they stay out. If they do not drink blood after going out in the sunlight, they can die.
Werewolves:
Like Vampires, there are also two forms of Werewolves, ones that are physically stronger, and ones that are magically stronger. The physically strong ones are simply called Werewolves. They can morph between their human, hybrid, and wolf forms at will and are ruled by the full moon. The magical Werewolves are called Wolvrin. A Wolfrin is strong magically and very intelligent. They are said to be ruled by the in between phases of the moon (Crescent, Half, Gibbous). They have all the other skills of a Werewolf.
Ri-Riy-Cen:
Magical "Guardian Beasts" that live in the "Ancient Forest." The location of this forest is unknown though. Most knowledge on this ancient clan of humanshape beasts is shrouded in mystery. From what we have heard, they are beasts with a humanshape appearance, and there can only be one of its kind. If there is one Red Wolf Ri-Riy-Cen (for example) there cannot be another Red Wolf Ri-Riy-Cen. The term Guardian Beast comes from the legend that this clan guards endangered species in their Ancient forest, until the rare species can multiply and be set free to roam the world once again. It is also said that this clan is very skilled in magic, and have been called Sorcerers and Sorceresses in legends and myths.
Most of the other creatures out there are unimportant, but many of them show up in the main story of Symptoms that I have to mention them.
Theives of the Desert:
All female race that live in the Deserts of Kenaia. They are the sworn enemies of the Thieves of the Mountains (which happen to be an all male race of theives). Desert Theives are very nimble and quick, being theives. Their dark skin blends in with their andy surroundings in the desert. They also love gemstones, and many have brightly colored gems embedded in their skin (its not as painful as it sounds...). Living conditions in the desert are hot and dry, so they wear light clothing.
Shinigami:
One of the Grim race that come from the continent of Ninoih. Being a continent were the Underworld had merged with the overworld, the demons live throughout the land. The Grims, the ones that guide souls to the Underworld cannot fulfil their task in a place that has no connection to the Underworld. Therefore, the Shinigami exist. They are much more powerful than the Grim, for they have to either travel to an Underworld entrance in a distant land, or create a prison for evil souls in the gap between the dimensions (this gap is called the Netherworld. There is no escape from it). Shinigami are also said to have an eye that can paralyze their opponent with fear, but Shinigami will only kill those who threaten the death date of another. If one messes with fate and tries to kill another before that one's death date, a Shinigami will act, and banish thier soul. Other than this, a Shinigami will never kill.
Moon Dancer:
Another all female race that live on the continent of Englanai. They survive by stealing the life force from their victims, or by borrowing power from the full moon in a sort of ritual that almost looks like an elegant dance. Thus they are called Moon Dancers. They are supposedly natrually beautiful so they can attract victims. Those that only borrow power from the Moon also have a low life expectancy.
Death Star Spirit:
"A being that should never have existed" is how a character in Symptoms later describes the Death Star Spirit, Leo. There are 13 of them, each named after a sign in the Western Zodiac (13 because there are two for Gemini). Each one has their own special artifact, and they are very dangerous creatures. Rumored to have been created in the Underworld from a Source of Mana, but their creation corrupted that Source. At their birth, stars appeared in the Underworld sky, which is said to be a bad omen to the residents of the Underworld.
Aurites:
"Magical Humans." The mostly human children with at least one magical ancestor (half-elves do not count). Aurites are either humans with a magical being in their family tree, or a Human that was given magical powers for some reason or another. Humans were looked down upon because they could not control their Mana and create Magic, but Aurites have this ability. Therefore Aurites are treated better than normal Humans in this world. Other than their magical abilities, Aurites are just the same as normal Human Beings.
Alright... Of course there are still many many more, but these are ones that appear in Symptoms, and to name every single creature in existance would be impossible. So... Hurray?
Well every world must be inhabited with creatures of all sorts. Sure, most of the 100% humans are gone, but there are pleanty of others still here. We'll start with a few of the main ones.
Elves:
The most basic magical creature. Though they are basic, they are anything but weak. Being more in touch with their inner Mana than humans, Elves have gained the ability to cast spells and extend their life expectancy far beyond the human race's. They are naturally nimble creatures and are masters of most weapons, except are unable to weild axes for some odd reason.
Out of the Elves in Rintusa, there are different types that depend on their Element and birthplace. The Elves that live on the Mainland are either ruled by the Elements of Water, Fire, or Earth. The Earth Elves live in the Forest Territory, the Fire Elves in the Scorched Territory, and the Water Elves in the Lake Territory. The Elves that live on Glare Island are ruled by Ice. Those that live in the Cloud Lands above the Mainland tend to be ruled by Light, Air, or Lightning. They are simply called Cloud Elves. The Dark Elves live in intricate tunnels throughout the Mainland and many other places. These shy, not evil, creatures tend to be ruled by Metal, Molten Rock, or Darkness. All of the Elves that exist on the Mainland are under the rule of the Elven Queen, Eliranora. (note: Anora is a title given to Elven Queens. Lilyanora was a past elf queen from long ago. Actually, Eliranora is the reincarnation of Lilyanora)
Dragons:
The once sworn enemy of the Elves. All dragons are physically and magically strong large lizardlike beasts. The Royal Dragon Family, the Wyverns, are the ones who govern the Dragons of the Mainland. Thier current King is Lancelot, and their Queen is Gwenea. Of all Dragons, they are also broken up into groups depending on their element. The element only defines their power and sometimes their scale color, but not their form. A Crevace Dragon, a Dragon of Fire or Molten Rock, may be red or orange in color, but can have the form of a, Eastern Style Dragon, or a European Style Dragon.
There are also creatures that call themselves Half-Dragons, though they are 100% Dragon. These beings have just evolved further than Dragons to take on a humanshape appearance. Some have called them Weredragons in the past, for they can switch between their humanshape form and their full Dragon form at any time. Even in their humanshape form, Half-Dragons still have some features that link them to Dragons, like claws, leathery wings, horns, and long ears.
Half Dragons are split up the same way normal Dragons are. Fire and Molten Rock Dragons are called Crevace Dragons, Water and Ice Dragons are called Sea Serpents, Air and Lightning Dragons are called Amphitheres, Earth and Metal Dragons are called Wyverns, and Darkness or Light Dragons are called Diety Dragons. In the past, there were also the Dragons that could control any Element, the Prisim Dragons, but now the only remnants of their existance are their scales that are scattered throughout the world.
Katreyes:
The strange feline Elves that live on the continent of Saireya. No one knows how they came into existance, but they tend to be even more nimble and quick than the normal Elves. And they aren't called feline just because of their movements. All Katreyes have furry ears, paw-like hands, and a tail, just like a Cat. All Katreyes live under one of the three territories in Saireya, the Forest Terriroty, the Mountain Territory, or the Desert Territory. Forest Katreyes tend to be faster than the rest, but also have low defense for close ranged combat. They also seem to be ruled by the elements of Earth, Metal, Water, or Air. Mountain Katreyes are very strong and have a high defence compared to the others. They are fast, but not as fast as the Forest Katreyes. Magic is not easy for the Mountain Katreyes for they are not as intelligent as the others, but they are masters at all forms of physical combat. These Katreyes tend to be ruled by the elements of Earth, Ice, Darkness, or Lightning. Desert Katreyes have been secluded from most civilization, and are not the fastest or the best fighters. But, they are known to be the most intelligent and are masters at elemental spells and tend to weild magical weaponry. These Katreyes are ruled by the elements of Earth, Fire, Molten Rock, and Light.
And those are the three basic Creatures in this world. I'll get into the less common ones next time.
(It probably would have been best to start with this but...)
In all existance, there are two types of power that make up a person's soul. They are simply called Energy and Mana. Energy is what one uses for everyday activities that involve physical action, like walking around, or punching someone (or in this world, swinging your giant battle axe...). Mana is the magical power, it allows one to form mystical power to heal or damage another. Humans are some of the few species that have not learned how to fully control their inner Mana, and therefore have evolved to have less Mana than Energy. Those humans that can control the little Mana they have are considered to have Psychic abilities, for the Mana can only be formed in a way that enhances the human's mind. Seeing as how humans have been trying to increase their intelligence for so long, it is fitting that their Mana would react in this way.
Energy is not as complicated as Mana though. It is used for physical tasks, and when it has been exausted even Mana cannot be channeled correctly, and the being is unable to move without feeling pain or is very tired. Energy can be replenished by consuming food or resting. Mana on the other hand, is very different. When exausted, it causes serious damage to the user's body. They tend to fall unconscious as well afterwards. To replenish Mana, one can rest and absorb it into their body as long as they exist in a Mana rich realm. Alchemists have also developed consumables that replenish Mana temporarily.
Mana also splits into two basic forms, the Elements of Light and Darkness. Light extends even further to the Elements of Water and Wind, and Darkness extends to Fire and Earth. Of those four extensions, they extend even further. Water extends to Ice, Wind to Lightning, Earth to Metal, and Fire to Molten Rock. When Water extends to Ice, it switches sides, and Ice is ruled by Darkness. In turn, Metal also switches to be ruled by Light. Each being with Mana has one dominant Element. Each Element is as powerful as the other, but how you use them is how you determine which is stronger. Water defeats Fire which defeats Earth which defeats Air which defeats Water. Light defeats Darkness which can also defeat Darkness.
Energy is pleantiful, and requires no source for it can naturally be regained. Mana on the other hand must come from a source, for it is mystical energy gifted to mortals by the gods and the High God (who Christians would simply call God). There are rumored to be Sources of Everlasting Mana spread throughout the world. Originally they existed in the Underworld and the Otherworld, but over time, they freely drifted from their original locations and to the Overworld. They seem to have a mind of their own, but give off Mana at a steady pace. It is also rumored that these Sources can be corrupted, and give off Negative Mana; Dark Magic Energy. This power causes most beasts to go beserk and evolve into mindless monsters that only wish to kill. It is this Dark Mana that caused monsters to develop and roam the world. But, just as the Sources are a rumor, it is also a rumor that something on the Holy Island has the power to purify a Corrupted Mana Source. Of course all of this is a rumor, but even rumors can be true.
This is the most crucial concept at the center of my world. Without these two powers, nothing could exist.
As the title says, we shall start with a layout of the world you are about to enter. The name of this magical land is Rintusa. It is a world in a dimension parallel to ours. It cannot exist without our world; without our world's existance, this other world cannot exist.
Unlike ours, the world of Rintusa is filled with magical wonders that can only exist within our imaginations (or mine to be specific). Vampires and Werewolves? They exist here (on the continent of Englanai to be exact). Civilized creatures, and beserk beasts inhabit the many continents and islands. The only creatures that have gone extinct are all of the phoenixes, except for the ones of the air (who have evolved to take on a humanshape appearance), unicorns (only one still exists), and humans, like us. Dragons and Elves still thrive, and live in peace. The Angels and Demons live in their apropriate places in either the Otherworld (Heaven) and the Underworld (Hell).
On the Overworld, the land between heaven and hell; the land in which most creatures exist on, there are many continents just like on our Earth. Originally, only the large island that the people called Rintusa was mapped out, along with the smaller islands that surrounded it. As explorers ventured out into the worl, the continents of Saireya and Illera were discovered. Englanai, Ninoih, Kenaia, and Crelaya were discovered soon afterwards. Now the entire world is called Rintusa, and the continent that was originally named Rintusa is the Rintusan Mainland.
The Mainland is where most of the story takes place. It is there that the Elves and Dragond live, along with settlers from other continents. Surrounding the Mainland are multiple islands, each representing one of the Mana Branches, or the Elements. Rage Ridge of Fire, Tearstar or Water, Overgrowth of Earth, The Hidden Island of Wind, Strikepoint of Lighting, Waning Crescent of Darkness, Waxing Crescent of Light, and Glare Island or Ice. Two other islands are suspected to exist, for there still exist the elements of Molten Rock and Metal. Along with the discovered elemental islands, there exists the haunted island of Twin Tail, and the now sunken Diamond Island, which, in the past, was the island of Ice before the chill passed onto Glare Island.
To the north of the Mainland is the continent of Illera, which used to be the homeland of the Dragons. But, Dragonology has been outlawed because of the great warrior Dragon, Aria. Most of the rogue Dragons and Half-Dragons have moved to either the Mainland, or to a secluded island off the coast of Illera. To the East of the Mainland is Saireya, the land of the Katreyes, the feline elves. Split into the kingdoms of the forest, the desert, and the mountains, the three kingdoms exist peacefully. To the Northeast of the Mainland is the Holy Continent of Crelaya. A barrier blocks all access to the Holy Island, unless one has been granted permission by the gods. The rest of the Continents exist somewhere in the world, but mapmakers do not know the exact location, for they traveled there through rifts in the dimensional boundary. Some believe the three other continents do not exist on the same dimensional plane, but it would be impossible for them to not.
If this is all too much to take in all at once, I'll draw a map for everyone later. Well, how do you like my world so far?
