The New York Asian Film Festival kicks off on Friday. This Friday. June 25. Since 2002, the New York Asian Film Festival’s brought some of Asia’s biggest, best, most obscure, and most provocative films to NYC, and gotten acclaim both from New Yorkers as well as folks like the New York Times, TIME, The Village Voice, The New Yorker, Variety, National Public Radio, The BBC, and Fuji TV. Hell, AintItCoolNews calls is “one of the absolute best Asian film festivals on the planet.” And, with this year’s festival kicking off in just a few days, you don’t have to wait much longer to find out why.
From June 25 to July 8, spread across the Lincoln Center’s Walter Reade Theater, Japan Society, and IFC Center, the New York Asian Film Festival’s presenting over 40 films from throughout Asia – ranging from The Storm Warriors, Death Kappa, and Yatterman to Confessions, Tian An Men, and Eastern Condors. Guests appearing at this year’s festival include Sammo Hung, Simon Yam, Huang Bo, Bruce Leung, and Yoshihiro Nishimura.
If you’ve been to the New York Asian Film Festival before, I don’t need to say anything more. If you haven’t, make this year your first trek out to the festival, as it’s one of NYC best festivals. Period. The energy, the audience, and the passion bubble over. And, the tickets are pretty cheap, too.
