Kinokuniya Rocks And Goes Gothic!

The New York Anime Festival holds a lot of events at Kinokuniya Bookstore (1073 Ave of Americas) in New York City. We just did a Cosplay Day and we'll be announcing another special gathering in the coming days. Of course, NYAF isn't the only one working to Kinokuniya. Nope, the store has a busy schedule of special events all year round. What's coming up?

GOTHIC: DARK GLAMOUR - September 9

From its origins in 18th century literature to its contemporary manifestations in vampire fiction, art, and cinema, gothic style has transformed the powers of horror and the macabre into something beautiful. Valerie Steele and Jennifer Park -- authors of the new book "Gothic: Dark Glamour" -- will speak at Kinokuniya at 5:30 PM on Tuesday, September 9 about the world of gothic design from its ancient origins, to black-clad teenagers, to its influence on designers including Christian Dior, Rick Owens, and Olivier Theyskens. Gothic: Dark Glamour isn't yet in stores, but attendees of the discussion will be able to pre-order Steele and Park's book at a special price.

THE MUSIC OF HIDEFUMI INO - September 10

Hidefumi Ino is a Japanese artist known through the fashion community around the globe -- He's collaborated with French designer Jean Touitou, and his work's been featured by UNIQLO. His music is airy, playful, enchanting, and delightful, and you can hear it for the first time at Kinokuniya. Kinokuniya Bookstore, Innocent Records, and Samurai Beat Radio will be presenting a Hidefumi Ino Listening Party at 5:30 PM on Wednesday, September 10 featuring Hidefumi's albums Living Messages and Satisfaction. This is the first time Hidefumi's music will be played in the US, and it's something any fan of good music shouldn't miss.
