“Bye” I muttered sarcastically as the gate behind me closed. I walked down the stairs and began my usual route into the shady neighborhood after a fight. It was filled with stray animal hybrids and crooked humans. They all did some kind of illegal business. I like the neighborhood though, it was a place where I could hang with some Alphas.
“Dammit, it hurt.” I thought to myself as I felt pain in my side. Why did I have to be hurt at a time like this. It hurt to crouch let alone do anything. I hated this. That dog fight sure was something. My opponent and i ended up pretty wounded. I had a huge bite on the side of my stomach. I had wrapped it up tight but it still continued to bleed. It was worth it though I had got the better of my opponent and won the cash for my gang. I closed my eyes and smirked. Hmm my opponent, a tall and muscular rottweiler. We are the same but in the arena it all changes. We become vicious and aggressive letting go all of our emotions. We fight to win because it's what we were trained for. I'm not afraid though, I know for damn sure I'm better than humans because I'm an Alpha.
I continued walking. I was thinking about heading to the bar to meet up with the guys and have a drink. My head was screaming for one. I wanted something strong to numb the pain. I suddenly stopped, my ears twitched. I could hear something. A voice in the distant getting closer. I began to smile they're almost near. God they smelled awful. I wonder where they had been? I heard my name called out.
“Rey!!”
“Hey wait up!!”
I turned around and smiled. It was my boy toy Hunter and his friend Blaez. They were running towards me with a black bag. Hunter was a black and light blonde wolf with a shaved hair cut. He was tall and muscular with a distinctive long vertical scar across his left eye. He had a bold and crazy personality with a good sense of humor. Unlike Hunter, Blaez was a observant African wild dog with spotted hair. He was my height and muscular. I had meet both of them when I was ambushed by gang rival guard dogs. They helped me out and ever since then we've been friends. They both jumped from the houses they were running on and landed in front of me.
“You deaf?” asked Hunter with a grin
“Naw I just don't have time to wait for two smelly assholes” I replied while looking at my nails.
I looked at his face. His smile faded and his expression changed into a sympathetic one
“Aw babe come on I could smell your blood a mile away”
“Humph I thought you knew. I was in a dog fight”
I have to admit I was a little touched by his response. I guess he did care about me. He started to take off his leather jacket and hand it to me.
“Here, take my jacket. Animal control is near. They'll ask about your wound.”
He grinned and came closer to me to put the jacket on me. I slipped my hands through each sleeve. He took advantage and nuzzled my face and kissed me on the cheek. I looked at him and gave him a mischievous wink.
“Thanks”
I was about ask them where they had been. When we heard sirens in the distance. It was animal control.
“They're here, let's go. Rey we'll catch you later” said Blaez
I nodded. “Go” I said.
“I'll take care of them. I have my ID and collar”
“You sure?” asked Hunter.
“Yeah”
They saluted me and went back to the roofs. I waved them off and they began running. I would distract animal control until they were at a safe distance. I knew I had no choice they were full time Alphas with no ID. I was fine though. This would be fun for me. I soon started two see two flash lights around the corner approaching. I put two fingers to my mouth and let out a big whistle.
“Heyyyy!!”
They turned to me and pointed their flashlights in my face. It was two animal control officers. They began walking towards me with mad faces. The first officer began questioning me.
“Where are your owners, Are you a stray” he asked.
“Oh don't bother, just grab her” said the second one
He moved towards me and tried to grab my arm. I hit his arm away before he could and shoved him.
“Sorry not gonna happen” I said. Seriously what were they thinking. They were getting too bold.
“That's disrespect to an officer” said the first one.
“Oh yeah, you were disrespectful to me first” I replied
“You're violating laws” said the second one.
I laughed. “You really think I care? go ahead, try to catch me”
They were starting to piss me off. Who the hell did they think they were? I was going to kick their asses and make them feel my anger towards humans.
In a quick swift movement I moved in front of the second officer and punched him in the jaw. He stumbled backwards. His partner was next. I turned and elbowed him in the face. It gave him a nose bleed. Those hits ought to buy me sometime so I can run. It's a pity though I can't finish them off, but I had to keep this wound in mind. I was about to run when some grabbed my arm and jerked me back.
“Ahhhhhh dammit, what the hell!!” I grabbed my side, that stung.
“You're under arrest for assaulting an officer” he said. He then moved to put handcuffs on me but before he could a kid came from the shadows.
“There you are I can't believe you snuck out again” he said.
“I'm sorry officers, she's our family dog”
“That's your dog, where are your tags” He replied.
He moved to the officer and showed him his tags.
“Hm seems legit”
“Yes officer, now if you don't mind we'll be on our way”
“Wait, hold on, this dog assaulted an officer and is under arrest”
The kid grabbed my arm and stepped back.
“...I'm sorry officer”
In a fast movement he pulled my arm signaling me to run.
This kid. He's brave. I'll give him that much.
I don't why I'm still running with him. He was ahead of me, I was starting to slow down. The damn pain was getting stronger. I let him guide me but it was a mistake he ended up leading us to a dead end. There were more flashlights in the distance appearing. This wouldn't be good. Ugh this couldn't have gotten any worse. And it was all thanks to this damn kid.
