“Why could I not protect Maki? And what if I can’t the next time? Sssshe ssshould jussst go home to that family of hersss.”
“The ones that loves you?”
“Yessss ssshe ssshould just leave and go back to being a normal human,” I answered.
“And you say this after you get her back?”
“I only sssay what you and I both know. I cannot protect her alwaysss,” I hissed.
“But your heart has never been happier with her,” Ryusemi mused.
“Sssstay out of my head!” I hissed, “It isss not your life it’ssss mine!”
Let’s kill him a voice hissed. It was not Ryusemi but something else something inside me. Let’ssss kill that dragon! He’sss ussselesss to usss! Let’sss kill him!
“Hachimata!” Ryusemi yelled, “What is that! Hachimata! Have I overseen this? Is this the extent of the separation of your mind? Hachimata what is that!”
Hikiri Hachimata…..Let’sss kill that dragon for what he sssays! He defiesss us! We told him ssstrictly that Maki ssshould return to her human life with family…Sssshe isss human and theresss no way we can protect her always….we may have love, but let usss be free! Letsss be free from this life!..and then we can be free!..Let’ssss return to the mountainssss and reign over them again! Kyuubi issss weak to think that we can ssstay sssafe by hiding any longer! Let’sss be free and reign! We can kill anyone who getsss in our way! We must destroy thossse that would have usss leave!....Ssssleep for now Hachimata…..and let me take over…..
I suddenly felt very sleepy indeed. I wanted to curl up inside my mind and stay there. It was warm and nice. I felt rain start to fall, but it didn’t sting. I slept peacefully.
[To Ryusemi]
“Hachimata!” I yelled I could feel something leaving my master or rather going to sleep. I felt a coldness inside his mind that made me fear for the first time since my existence started.
“The Hachimata that issss your massster isss asssleep at the moment,” I heard Hachimata’s voice, but it was cold and heartless this was the side that had split away, “I am in control right now. When you destroyed those memories to dessstroy Suki’sss darker sssside it left a hole for me to be born. I lived inside Hachimata as a dark figment of doubt a lingering fear. And then when precious Maki died, I was fed all that he felt and grew apart from him. And now that sssshe hasss returned he wasss happy but the doubt that he could protect her and keep her sssafe hasss let me in control. Thisss body will be mossst fun to play with.”
“Hachimata! HACHIMATA!” I yelled.
“He won’t awake ever again,” the voice said, “And asss for you…..”
I felt my form being pulled off Hachimata’s neck and dropped to the ground. Hachimata walked away, and I felt him shove the last contact I had with his mind away.
“Hachimata…..” I said quietly, “Is this what you felt and feared……”
