As I sat at my desk I stared up at ceiling, the glow-in-the-dark stars winked cheekily back at me. "cheeky bastards. . ." I muttered gloomily, tapping my pencil against the oak wood of the desk. Sighing I stood up and left the room, wandering outside.
Suddenly a sharp, searing bolt of pain burst through my brain and I doubled up, groaning. I felt like my head was going to split open. . .then as soon as it had appeared it left; just like that.
"What's going on?" I thought to myself; getting back up.
"Hello? Hello? Can you hear me?"
It was so sudden it made me jump, like someone had turned a microphone on and was speaking directly to my brain.
"the hell?!" I turned around looking for the speaker, but no one was there.
There it was again; "Hello? Hello? Can you hear me?"
"Yes! I can hear you! Quiet down, would you. You're killing my eardrums." I snapped into the chilly air; feeling rather silly.
Suddenly I heard a burst of laughter, "Oh, I like you." the voice said again. I could hear the smirk behind that slightly stinging comment. "Don't patronize me" I said quietly "otherwise I'll turn you off."
"Turn me off? Like a radio? Are you simply going to unplug the microphone or something, because I warn you; it's not that simple."
"what do you mean?" I asked suspiciously.
"Why nothing, only that I am not that easily disposed of." There it was again, that smirk that was so audible behind those seemingly innocent words.
Then, a flash of red light and everything went dark. As I peered into the murky depths, I felt suddenly quite alone and bleak. Somewhere in the distance I spied a twinkling light. As I stared at it, the light seemed to grow bigger and bigger until it was of mannish proportions. I closed my eyes for a fraction of a second and when I reopened them world had suddenly reappeared, but it was different; the sky had an eerie green glow, the ground was the reddish brown color of dried blood and there he was, standing in front of me.
