"I'll keep that in mind" I said to Victor as he left, then I helped Skylar up.
"You okay?" I asked him, for what felt like the thousandth time. Didn't I have any other words in my vocabulary.
And what was with Victor? He wasn't taking that whole "indebted to me" seriously still was he? I wanted to follow him and talk, but the look in his eye had told me that it would be dangerous to bother him right now.

I stared at Victor's retreating form and wondered what the heck had just happened. I'd expected Victor to try to hurt Maria, but instead he seemed almost...protective...of her.
I turned to Maria.
"Care to tell me what's going on, Maria?"
Her only answer was a shrug and "When I know, you'll know."
This astonished me. Could Victor be right? Was Maria attracted to Skylar? Certainly she seemed protective of him, but protectiveness of friends was a trait we seemed to share.
